I need some waterproof boots....that aren't wellies. Suggestions?

Size 8 and wide feet. I have no waterproof boots and really would like some plain black flat lace up ankle boots.
I have tried Clarks Orinoco in wide fit and they were SO tight that I will be taking them back.

I don't want walking boots just some that look good with jeans.

I read that even DM's are not waterproof, not sure they'd look good on me now that I'm 42. I used to wear them in 6th form!
Can anyone suggest any other places to try please?

I think DMs, if you look after them, are near as dammit waterproof. Unless you actually want to wear rubber boots or hiking boots they are definitely the closest I've ever got. I had toasty dry feet all winter (I had a Chelsea boot style). I have some hideous croc boots too but we won't talk about them

Not lace up, but Blundstones.

Leather timberlands are super waterproof. I've been out in mine in torrential rain and my feet and socks have stayed bone dry!

Not lace up and knee/mid calf, but Welligogs are the shiz. I adore mine.

HereBeFuckery · 16/06/2019 18:40

This pair I have actually waded/forded rivers in them and stayed warm and dry. I cannot recommend them enough.

Do not go for the Ugg biker boots style (can't think of the name).

Great for walking around in, bloody useless for keeping feet even remotely dry.

Have a look at motorcycle boots. Oxford Ladies ones for example. A lot of them are waterproof.

Heratnumber7 · 16/06/2019 18:48

DMs. Or have a look at men's ankle boots. They are wider and sturdier/more waterproof than women's.

Timberland, definitely waterproof, and very comfortable too.

I've got Grisport Lady Hurricane walking boots, worn for dog walking in muddy woods and puddles. Very comfortable, soft leather, and completely waterproof.
I know you said you don't need walking boots, but I've seen pics of Kate Middleton wearing them with jeans for "dressed down" events and they look good.

How about www.dubarryboots.com/womens-footwear/country-boots. I have the Sligo boots...marvellous.

cujo · 16/06/2019 20:28

I would say country boots. Live in them in the winter. Dubarry if you are feeling flush, or Ariat or Dublin if your budget doesn’t stretch as far x

Bodicea · 17/06/2019 10:55

I second country boots. Live in them in the winter. Treated myself to some dubbary but you can get other names a lot cheaper. They are so practical.

BikeRunSki · 17/06/2019 11:01

Blundstones
The half sizes are the same length as the equivalent full size, but wide fit.
I wear them with pretty much everything.

MaudesMum · 17/06/2019 11:45

Also seconding (thirding?) timberlands - especially the ones with grippy soles, as they're great for slidy days. With leather boots that get wet a lot, I'd either polish them once they're dry or get a weatherproof spray - either will stop water penetrating the leather and keep them in better nick for longer.

Thanks everyone,loads of suggestions there.
