Hairdressers....is it me?

Is it just me or do you come back from the hairdressers and wash your hair?

I despair of finding a great hairdresser. Now I have settled on an okay one who rescued my hair from a mullet that someone else cut in. Now it is starting to take on a bob shape (which I don't want but always seem to get) but he straightens the life out of it. I have left it for a couple of hours but it was like sheets of glass hanging from my head so I have had to wash it, and now it resembles hair again....

I am really tired of this haircut malarkey. I think I have had two cuts in my long lifetime that were fab, the rest have been on the continuum from so so to fucking diabolical leading up to the aforementioned mullet. It's expensive and a bit demoralising.

I think I am going to make hats my signature look....

Interesting about Japanese hairdressers- the best cut I ever had was by a Japanese chap .

Couple of years ago, I went to my usual hairdressers on a whim (had a couple of hours to kill in town and hair was a state) - the Director was the only one available and was just a trim, so off we went.

He asked if he could curl my (naturally poker straight) hair after the cut, which I shrugged and went along with.

£70-odd quid later, I Wandered out, Feeling poor sporting an actual 80s style poodle head, which made my now-husband cry laughing when he saw it. Even worse, when I then washed it to remove said poodleage, I realised that the reason it had been curled was to cover the fucking great chunk that had been chopped off the back. Scissor slippage, desire to reveal my neck, unrestrained hatred for Tuesdays, I have no idea, but had to have my mid-back length hair long-bobbed to even it up.

Not been back and unsurprisingly cancelled my wedding hair appointment 😬

I found my lovely hairdresser by chance on a Groupon deal (which I’d never usually risk for a haircut, not sure what came over me!). Turned out to be the most amazing little salon, just her (she owns the salon) and 2/3 other hairdressers. She has worked so hard to build up her business and clients and you can really tell how hard she works, and really listens to what you are asking for.

I realised early on I was on to a good thing, so they get tips, Christmas presents, maternity gifts, the lot!

It’s so hit and miss it to find a good one, and it’s the unknown element which I find hard too. What I would say is don’t feel like it has to be a name above the door to get the best haircut.

I drive 100 mile round trip to get my hair cut. Across Devon. It's not as far as going to London, which I used to do.Local hairdressers are mostly sh*te.

My DD had her hair cut this week, dry cut , £12 , good stylist but , DD said take 6 inches off and Hairstylist took 13 inches. She is ok about it .......now Grin

I totally get this. Funnily enough I am the other way to a lot of you though! My hairdresser used to like to blow dry my hair nice and big, I would go home and straighten the shit out of it. She has retired now. Went to a local place that is double the price and it was ok. I was just relieved it wasn't terrible to be honest!

Ohyesiam · 17/06/2019 20:49

I always have a wet cut.

Cryinganddyeing · 17/06/2019 20:50

I ALWAYS restyle after a cut and finish.

I feel like they can't get the idea of everything being curled under and full of volume out of their system.

I like it sleek.

I have really thick hair but I have a very short pixie cut. If its not feathered and thinned properly I end up looking like I've been to the barbers. It also grows really fast and I get a cut every 5 weeks.

I have found a brilliant hairdresser after years of looking. She really actually listens. Its a cheapo salon in the shit end of my town and it costs £30. I always go in first thing on a Saturday, straight out of the shower with hair still wet. She rough dries it and then I put in my own product how like it. Perfect.

She did do a bad job once in the last 3 years when she had a terrible cold, but I luff her!

nellyitsme · 17/06/2019 21:06

@LoafEater that sounds good. Is she anywhere near me in the Midlands? 😀

I've spent the weekend trawling the web and have posted on spotted pages on Facebook and I'm going to check a few places out tomorrow- wish me luck

wellbuggerme · 17/06/2019 21:53

i always wash mine because i hate the "bits" of hair everywhere! I hate the inane chitchat etc. just cut my hair! and no i don`t want slop put on it!

LoafEater · 17/06/2019 23:19

Sorry nelly, about 200 miles away!

Olinguito · 17/06/2019 23:45

The worst thing for me is letting hairdressers cut my fringe. I've so often asked them to take just a tiny bit off, only to find my fringe cut half way up my forehead. I now often don't let them cut the fringe at all and just trim it myself at home.

Similarly they always blow dry it in a weird rounded shaped - the first thing I do when I get home is wet the fringe and dry it flat again.
