I am using the purple shampoo to make my hair more silver but im getting lots of lilac patches, is there any way to avoid this?

How recently did you have your hair coloured? What colour is it, is it pearly blonde or ash blonde etc? How often are you using the purple shampoo and what brand is it?

Bumsnet69 · 14/06/2019 10:25

Don't use the purple shampoo every time, alternate with a different shampoo.

I would use the purple shampoo about once a week.

IAmDetermined · 14/06/2019 10:38

I only use it once a week and I never leave it on for more than a minute.

Honeybingbong · 14/06/2019 10:47

I did this recently after I dyed my hair light blonde to try and tone it down a bit. It went pink/purple/grey patchy. I left it on to long. I haven’t laughed so much in ages I liked like a gone wrong pixie.

After talking to a hairdresser friend she recommended that only do it sparingly once a week and use a good quality conditioner every other time I wash my hair probably because my hair is damaged now so it absorbed too much.

CrumpetWithMarg · 14/06/2019 10:51

Use Bleach London Silver Shampoo - it's amazing on my white blonde hair.

Also, how long are you leaving it in for? If I left my old purple conditioner in (that was the one that had the toner in, not the shampoo) for more than about 3 minutes, I had stains.

Also as PP said, don't use it every day. I use mine maybe every third wash.

I only use now and again, it was a John Freda one but did leave it on for about 15 mins!! Oops.

Ah yep, that’ll cause the lilac patches! The only time you need to leave it on longer than a minute is if you’ve recently had roots and and get a root glow. Otherwise use it once every 10 days (I actually make a note on my calendar the day I’ve used it!) and try a different brand. I use the Charles worthington ultra violet and I love it. Not only does it knock out brassy tones it leaves my (frizz prone over processed) hair soft and smooth. It’s also silicone and sulfate free!

Thank you!! Just going to own the purple look for a few days before washing and trying to get it out!! I'm trying bro get it a bit more gray/silver as I'm growing my own gray out.

Thank you OP, this is very timely, just bought some of this kind of shampoo.

Terrysyogurt · 14/06/2019 15:28

Let me know how you get on Zoe Grin

I don't use it every time I wash, and don't leave it on very long.

Zoeputthatdown · 14/06/2019 15:57

Nervous now! Wink

IAmDetermined · 14/06/2019 16:27

15mins?! Bloody hell no wonder! Literally use it just like any shampoo. I think the temptation is to leave it on because you feel like it's like a dye. I read a million reviews before using mine and all the ones with purple hair left it on too long lol. It will wash out OP , don't worry Wink

GreyHare · 14/06/2019 20:20

I use mine about every third shampoo but I use it like a normal shampoo otherwise my ears go blue and I look like a cadaver, 15 minutes it's a crazy amount of time to leave it on.

Terrysyogurt · 15/06/2019 00:01

Grin loving my lilac, I Will wash it with vosene this week to strip the colour then just wash as normal with the purple shampoo.
