Help - graduation style advice

I've been invited to a graduation and have no idea what to wear. I'll be accompanying the graduates father and meeting a few of the family members for the first time.

I'm 5'4" and a size 16. Want to look nice but not over/underdressed! I have no clue so open to all suggestions

I’m a lecturer, so attend graduations every year. Most female guests at ours wear smart outfits, often dresses, but it’s nowhere near as fancy as a wedding. (Men are usually in suits, or trousers/jacket/shirt.) If it’s a July graduation then a nice summer frock will be perfect, with a blazer or cardi. Ours are in a big draughty hall which tends to start off very chilly, then get warm as it fills up with people.

If it helps, I mainly get a Hobbs/Phase 8 vibe from the women’s outfits, possibly some Whistles, but the ones I meet tend to be mums of my students who are in their 20s, so 40s/50s or older. Sisters/girlfriends/wives who are the students’ age are in things from Zara, Warehouse, Topshop etc.

Totally agree with above...nice day dress and cardi/jacket nothing too wedding like. Whats your style usually? And do you have a budget in mind ?

Oh, I’ve just thought, my colleague’s daughter graduates next month, and she (mum) has bought a lovely wide-legged jumpsuit which she’s going to wear with wedge sandals, and a navy blazer. That might be another option if you are not a dress fan? She went outfit shopping with “posh afternoon tea” sort of thing in her head!

Perfect.
You might want a jacket or cardigan depending on the venue.

How annoying, that's a lovely dress. Still, you know what style to go for, so get shopping! 🙂
