Feminine deodorant

I have been using Femfresh spray deodorant daily for three months and it has changed my life. I have spent years feeling self-conscious about fanjo dampness and odour. It completely removes both and the relief is immense.
But, I now have thrush for the second time in a week. Has anyone got any advice or alternatives I could try? I really don't want to stop using it. Help!

I use Mitchum unfragranced antiperspirant on my armpits, and it works well to prevent perspiration. It is a roll on, so it might be easier for you to use on your genital area whilst avoiding getting it further in, if you know what I mean.

The downside is that it feels sticky when you put it on, but it might be worth a go.

And letting your bits breathe by wearing no knickers ( a nightgown or similar if you want to keep blinds open) for an hour or so each day.

OP, I'm wondering if you are spraying upwards, towards the creases, if so, spray downwards, aim towards the area just below your bikini line. Have the nozzle pointing to the floor rather than the ceiling.
I've been using Femfresh for a long time, without problems. I'm the same as you, and it is a complete game changer. Always dailies liners are also good when you are on the go and cant wash or change. Judging from the answers on here, I see a lot of women really don't understand what it's like to have this problem!

AgentProvocateur · 11/06/2019 18:59

OP, I’m the same as you andvits exacerbated because I’m menopausal and live in the Middle East. Lush’s silky underwear (a powder) helps me slightly, but I am tempted by Femfresh deodorant now that I know it exists! It’s really miserable being so sweaty that light coloured clothes are a no no.

QueenieMum · 11/06/2019 19:10

@zenasfuck you should work in marketing, great slogan! Stop spraying stuff on your chuff! Could be a future MN campaign!

BobbyBrewstersMagicTorch · 11/06/2019 19:19

Could you try one of those "rock" anti-perspirants? I think they're just crystal, so can't imagine they'd do too much harm? But maybe ask the pharmacist.

zenasfuck · 11/06/2019 19:26

@queeniemum 😁😁

Op try silky underwear by lush, keeps my creases dry and smelling fresh

Fstar · 11/06/2019 20:01

I understand completely, i too suffer from a lot of excessive sweating all over to the point where i choose clothes carefully so there isnt a chance of it showing. Femfresh is designed to help soothe the skin, ive been using the podwer and deoderant and too have felt a great improvement in feeling fresh all day, also wear nothing but cotton underear now. Not had thrush in years so i seem to be ok with it. The deo is also great for boob sweat and staying fresh feeling. Superdrug do their own version but maybe check with gp to get their opinion on it. Hope you get relief soon

MaiaRindell · 12/06/2019 10:59

Thank you so much for all the responses! I feel really relieved knowing there are others. I will definitely try the Lush Silky Underwear.
To the poster who asked why I can't find cotton underwear, most types have an an element of stretch, lycra or lace. They are 'cotton rich' rather than pure cotton. Pure cotton pants tent to be very large and I find them uncomfortable.
To the others who didn't understand, this isn't vanity. We think nothing of wearing deodorant under our arms so I don't understand why using it elsewhere is so shocking. I use normal deodorant under the boobs, on my cleavage and under my C-Section crease too. It isn't really surprising that my thigh and fango area need some too.

What l am confused about is the fact you think the sweat smells?
It shouldn’t unless you have something that a doctor might need to look at?
I believe that (sometimes) women are so hard on themselves...
it sounds like a harsh way to live in your skin. :(

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 12/06/2019 11:20

Fresh sweat doesn't smell, but any sweat that is left in a crevice or warm fold of skin will start to smell because of the bacteria on the skin.

That is why I have recommended an antiperspirant rather than a deodorant, as it will stop the perspiration in that area, rather than just masking the developing smell with artificial scent.

emilyhamptoncakeslice · 12/06/2019 11:22

Do you use soap or shower gel?

After advice on here find bar soap is much better

MaiaRindell · 12/06/2019 11:36

@Willowtreecottage of course sweat smells. Not fresh sweat, but if I shower at 7 and don't wear underarm deodorant, I smell by lunchtime. I am not being harsh on myself. I know I have a tendency to smell and I limit that by using products to combat it.

MaiaRindell · 12/06/2019 11:37

@emilyhamptoncakeslice I have tried every form of washing!

Maia
Ok.

dontgobaconmyheart · 12/06/2019 11:48

Some sweat is normal OP, I realise you ate self conscious about this and feel defensive but nobody who is horrified about the femfresh deodorant is wrong. The ethos behind the product is appalling. The vulva and vagina is supposed to be damp, it secretes. It will sweat, it is an enclosed area that doesn't get much air. Giving yourself thrush with a product renowned to be appalling for womens genitals is surely not the answer. I really feel for you.

If it is not the vulva itself that is then problem could you use lana cane or similar in the thigh crease -carefully. Or any similar anti chafing cream such as he udderly smooth one. It will keep the area dry.

I suspect the 'smell' is unlikely to be anything anyone else will notice day to day, nobodies genitals smell of nothing, and nobodies smell of a fragrance at any time, especially the end of a day.

I also really would make a converted effort to find cotton pants, most people seem to be able to find them so there are plenty about- online perhaps. Otherwise showers not baths, no perfumed shower gels etc to keep the thrush at bay.

MaiaRindell · 12/06/2019 12:36

dontgobaconmyheart I was looking for advice from people who have experienced similar, which I now have. I feel judged for using this deodorant. I do feel defensive because some people are assuming that I am wrong, that I am being overly sensitive, that smells and moisture are normal and that I should stop using products. Please do not make assumptions about me or my body. I have said it's not coming from my vulva but from the crease of my thigh.
Trust me when I say I am not dealing with a normal smell. My DDs have noticed it in the morning before I have showered and asked what the smell was and my mother has tactfully told me.
I have never had sex without showering first, I have never worn clothes more than once. I have never shared clothes with anyone else. Femfresh has given me a break from this smell in the first time in all of my adult life.

Apparently the odour is caused by your skin's bacteria breaking the sweat (which is odourless) down into acids, @Willowtreecottage - article here.

Willowtreecottage · 12/06/2019 13:15

Thank you for the article.
I’m not around very strong smelling people in my life. So l imagine it must be a challenge!

Luvacuppatea · 12/06/2019 13:42

How about a roll on deodorant/ antiperspirant applied only to the area involved (where your thighs meet you groin) thereby avoiding generalised spraying?

TheDogIsMyFave · 12/06/2019 13:52

The word Fanjo makes me want to rip my own eyeballs out. That's all I have to say.

Soola · 12/06/2019 15:45

@TheDogIsMyFave

Fanjo, Norks, sanpro, naice are all words that make me shudder.

LoafofSellotape · 12/06/2019 15:59

Judging from the answers on here, I see a lot of women really don't understand what it's like to have this problem!

Clearly!

Bodyform liners are the best one OP, cotton like so don't make things worse.

If you use talc, put your knicks on first so it doesn't travel where it shouldn't,liquid talc would probably be best.
