I need help with camouflaging my red nose!

I am 57, have never worn make up (aside from a little mascara), so am not familiar with foundation, concealer etc.
My nose is permanently red. GP thinks possibly rosacea, but the creme prescribed (Rozex) has made it worse, not better. I am very self-conscious about it now and need something that will help reduce or cover up the redness. Can anyone please recommend anything? Thanks.

Try Bobbi Brown foundation stick. It's really thick like theatrical make up. You can dab it on. Need to use quite a bit to even out the pores but it lasts for ages and gives your skin a smooth, velvety texture. I always get compliments when I'm wearing it. Costs £27 at John Lewis but worth it, and comes in lots of skin tones.

I would go for a concealer rather than a foundation. Noses are notorious for not holding on to foundation throughout the day - first place to fade!

First get a green colour corrector - there's lots in Boots, no need to spend lots of money on that. I think Collection do one for £3 ish. A small amount of that will counteract the redness - you might find that's enough. If not then go in with concealer.

Have a look at Nars Radiant Creamy, Too Faced Born this way sculpting concealer (both £££) NYX can't stop won't stop is great so is the ELF camo concealer (both £).

Max Factor Pan Stik is a good concealer for the nose. It's easy to dab on and it stays put.

Am watching with interest, I have same issue but applying any cover makes it worse!

Tell your GP the cream doesn't work. I had similar. I asked for Soolantra after hearing about it on here. My GP hadn't heard of it but prescribed it. I also wear factor 50 suncream every day. No more red nose.

IT cosmetics cc cream is really good for covering red. Works a treat when my nose is looking aggravated. You can get it at Boots - worth finding a branch that stocks it so you can get the right shade, rather than buying online www.boots.com/it-cosmetics/it-cosmetics-face/it-cosmetics-your-skin-but-better-CC-spf-50-10251002

My nose is happiest when my skincare is kept as simple as possible (and stays out of the sun). I avoid anything very fragranced, and also no silicones. A big no to retinols or Vitamin C serums etc. My skin also hates sunscreen which is not helpful!

IT cosmetics from boots are great for rosacea.
They will do a little tester on you in store x

Lily Lolo blush away is good.

BowiesJumper · 10/06/2019 12:42

I was going to say IT cosmetics CC cream too. They do a matte one, an illuminating one (for a "glow") and a standard one which still looks quite dewy. Unless you have oily skin, I'd probably go for that one.

Vichy Dermablend is excellent for covering redness. It's very gentle and you only need to use a tiny bit.

Also agree with others saying go back to gp.

Your GP probably won't be able to prescribe Mirvaso but you can get it from a private dermatologist or online pharmacy. Stops the redness of rosacea for ~12 hours by constructing the blood vessels in the skin. Might be easier than camouflaging with make up. (Doctor currently working in dermatology)

MimiSam · 11/06/2019 09:31

Thanks very much for the suggestions. I'll try some out and report back in due course.
Hiphopopotamous - do you know why Mirvaso isn't available on the NHS? Is it the cost or are there other issues? I looked it up and it seems a common side effect is worsening of the condition, which I don't much fancy, especially as that is what happened with Rozex...
