How do you do your hair for everyday?

Just that really.

My hair is mostly straight/ a bit wavy and I guess kind of medium to long but not really that long 🤔 (the length is relative I guess). Straight blunt cut, no layers or fringe. For everyday I just have it down, sometimes coupled with a 'fringe braid'. I haven't straightened/curled/blow dryed it for every day for a couple of years now (going out and special occasions are my exceptions but are maybe a handful of times a year). I've started getting into French braids.

How do you do your hair for normal days like the weekend or when you go to work?

Things I'm trying to find out: Is it more popular or normal to use heat on hair for everyday? Does it look more professional at work? Or more put together outside of home? Should I be doing my hair differently? 🤔

Bumping as I’d love some hair inspiration!
I have long very thick hair. I normally chuck it up in a bun as it’s quick and easy but I’m so bored of this! I would love to leave it out curly but it’s frizzy, and I can’t curl with straighteners. Having my hair straight takes about 90 mins as it’s so thick, with a toddler I just haven’t the time to straighten it.

moonpiggle · 10/06/2019 11:00

Same..stuck in a rut with mine as im never happy with it really. I wear it in a big messy bun on top or half up and half down messy bun. If im feeling adventurous il put it in a high pony and wave it.

moonpiggle · 10/06/2019 11:01

Id say no to heat everyday so for me the messy bun actually works lol

PinkDaydreams · 10/06/2019 11:11

I can’t get a messy bun to look right! It ends up a frizzy bun Confused

moonpiggle · 10/06/2019 12:57

Ah yes thats not a good look 😂 i have frizzy days too so yep i agree the bun doesnt work.

alittlequinnie · 10/06/2019 13:26

I'm guilty of the worst of sins.

For everyday at work etc it gets twisted up and then clipped with a small plastic claw clip. Every single day, Monday to Friday.

For weekends the same unless I am going out in which case I spend ages blow drying it into a sort of long bob and then I turn the end under with my ghd curling tongs. Sometimes it looks nice - other times AWFUL.

I can't reliably curl it - sometimes it looks great but only sometimes - I'm going to a black tie do on Thursday and it will be in it's really boring long bob with turned under ends - I will be avoiding cameras!

Been trying to get the Dyson Airwave in the hope that I will become gorgeous but they are not available anywhere!

alittlequinnie · 10/06/2019 13:26

^^ In my defence I cycle to work so it starts and ends each day in a helmet - no point blow drying it to stick a helmet on it and communte into the city on a bike!

Inliverpool1 · 10/06/2019 13:41

So I do the curly hair method so no heat except for special occasions but I do concede it looks shit most of the time

SushiTime · 10/06/2019 14:10

I'm loving headbands! They really make your look "thought about" and it keeps it out of my face but can still wear it down!

Cloudyyy · 10/06/2019 14:17

I have similar hair to you it sounds OP! Normally I just curl is quickly with my straighteners and mess it/ spray with holding spritz. 5 mins max, looks sort of messy and big and never “falls out” 😂 sometimes I actually straighten and style it properly.

Ellapaella · 10/06/2019 14:57

My hair is shoulder length and I wear it up in a messy bun nearly everyday. I rarely wear it down as it just annoys me.

BiBabbles · 10/06/2019 15:10

Nearly all the time, I brush it out, then spray leave-in condition on a shampoo brush, comb through again to keep the frizz more in check and give a slightly-but-not-greasy slicked back look, then pull into a low ponytail.

It does the job most of the time, though at the end of most days, between the frizz and wind, the top of my hair is a mess. Not yet found anything to really keep in check yet other than wearing a hat all the time...

troppibambini · 10/06/2019 15:15

I blow dry and straighten it at night, the next day I quickly blow over it in the morning.
The next night I sometimes put some waves in with tongs.
My hair is always down and reasonably done never wear it up as it doesn't suit me.
That said I can usually get 3/4 days out of it before it needs a wash.

Soola · 10/06/2019 15:55

I have four looks. Fringe and long hair straight down. Quite long. I never ever use straighteners as I don’t like the look of straightened hair with them so i blow dry straight.

Or I blow dry but scrunch up my hair and use a diffuser and that gives my hair some natural looking waves.

Or I twist it up the back lifting it high and hold in place with a claw grip and then fan out the ends of the hair so that you can see it at the top of my head from the front.

Or I wear it in two plaits either side of my face Indian Squaw style which my husband loves but I get the odd eye roll from my daughter!

I’m very good with make up and clothes but rubbish at doing my hair, it has to be very simple.

I would love a return to big 1980s perms as they were so flattering to my face and still would be!

Chelsea26 · 10/06/2019 17:51

Day 1 - blow dried with hot air brush
Day 2 - run over with straighteners if needed
Day 3 - up in messy bun

Then wash and start again.

That’s the plan however often day 1 is scrunched when wet with a bit of curl spray and dry naturally as I can’t be arsed. The other two days stay the same...

boooey · 10/06/2019 17:58

I’d love some tips on styling thick frizzy hair

Mine has no natural curl, it’s just frizzy and very coarse. Blow drying takes ages and even with a kera straight treatment it’s big and puffy.
After the gym I let it dry naturally which means mushroom head so I put it up in a crappy bun thing.
I love a French braid but can’t do them myself !

PinkDaydreams · 10/06/2019 18:29

@booey you sound the same as me!! I’d love to be able to French braid but can’t do it. When I dry mine with the hair dryer it just goes into a big frizzy mess, it’s horrendous! I’ve said to DH so many times lately if I could get away with shaving it all off then I would, it really gets me down. I’d love to go really short but it would end up like a mushroom 😳

boooey · 10/06/2019 19:08

PinkDaydreams it’s such a chore isn’t it?
Hot weather: frizz! Any moisture: more frizz !
If I blow dry and straighten, as soon as I step outside it puffs up and becomes unmanageable. What’s the point ?!
Only a really good salon blow dry helps me for a couple of days.
Most of my friends have fine hair and I’d love that ! They Just wash and go!

I use super duper salon products too but every time I go to a hairdresser they love telling me how dry it is, and ‘do you not use conditioner?!’ I say yes, I use the bloody thing you sold me for £30 last time ! It’s the texture, it’s natural as dry as a bone !

I’d love to feel liberated and shave mine off but I know I’d have a weird shaped head plus on no makeup days I’d be looking very odd indeed

I loved reading everyone's hairstyle journeys and I really like the idea of a messy bun and using Alice bands. I used to wear Alice bands but have no idea where they've gone now- I'm loving the excuse to go shopping for them!

Doing a French braid ponytail is hard. I've been trying it out and it does get messy rather quickly but I think I'm getting the hang of it, my arms hurt less doing it at least 😂

@Soola I've checked out this perm online and it's lovely. I think you should definitely consider getting it if it still suits you 😊

I used to have shoulder length hair, but got fed up with it always looking as if it had exploded on my head, whatever product or styling I used/did, I still had a birds nest plonked on my head. I got my barber DS to completely cut it off, it's extremely short with a fade at the back and side. For everyday styling all I do is just spike it up with hair putty and go!

Soola · 12/06/2019 19:15

@PinkDaydreams
@boooey
I bought the Dyson supersonic and it’s brilliant for getting frizz free hair. Well worth the money even if me Dyson is a twat.

wiltingflower · 19/06/2019 17:56

An update from me 😃

I have now been practicing doing a French braid ponytail for a while and think it's looking neater than before!

Daily hairstyles are now:
A messy bun using a doughnut
A French braid
Hair down with an alice band
A low bun using this weird squishy mouth like doughnut thing from Primark
A high ponytail with a bit of hair wrapped around the hair band
Half up hair with a claw/ mini clip

Wash, comb, hairdryer and leave it. Bung it up in a clip or with bobbies if it's getting on my tits...
