Help to fade acne spots?

fedup21 · 09/06/2019 14:12

DD has been on antibiotics for her skin which is really clearing up now and there don’t seem to be any cystic lumps or active breakouts, but has left some quite dark marks where the spots were. Is there anything she can put which might help them to fade?

Lots of things! Dermarolling, acid peels, retinol, vitamin c, lasers, led light therapy, hydroquinone. How old is she though, as some of these can be pretty harsh.

fedup21 · 09/06/2019 14:33

Only 16-some of those do sound harsh!

Do you mean Vitamin C as in the bits from the Body Shop range?

This brand is good. I would also recommend the azelaic acid from them too and rosehip oil can be helpful.

Plus daily SPF, to prevent it getting any worse.

Differin is good as is Tretinoin both prescription retinoids. To fade them marks daily sunscream use is needed, La Roche do a great suncream which blocks out the UVA rays which are responsible for pigmentation .

I wouldnt bother with vitamin C.

Azalaic acid is also good for Hyper pigmentation. Hydroquinone is but is quite a harsh ingredient and again requires daily sunscreen use.

Debbiediva topical vitamin c is one of the few things dermatologists agree is beneficial. It can have almost miraculous results.

Debbiediva · 10/06/2019 16:21

Vitamin C can be beneficial however its benefits are far less certain than say differin/tretinoin. Vitamin c is very unstable in topical form so it is not really known how much makes it to the skin, furthermore its almost impossible to tell if the vitamin c is stabilized because the igrediants vary from brand to brand.

Since Op's son will want to get rid of pigmentation since lets face it nobody wants acne marks, especially when the linger on. It is best to use a product we know will certainly work. If it was simply a dull complexion I would say Vit C.

Not all derms agree with Vit C Dr Dray done a great video on YouTube about this.

poopypants · 10/06/2019 16:35

Debbiediva I hear what you are saying. I find a routine of Tretinoin PM and Vit C in the AM works really well for pigmentation and wrinkles. ANd of course sun cream.

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/06/2019 19:56

Vitamin c made me really spotty.

It’s caused by melanocytes so she has to wear spf 50 every single day.

I've been using facetheory regenecalm and porebright serums and they're definitely helping.
I've noticed a definite fading

I've been using coconut oil recently on my skin and noticed a massive improvement reducing the redness and dryness caused by spots. Plus only £1 out of home bargains!

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 10/06/2019 20:51

Have a look at Azelaic acid as some
Previous posters suggested.
I have been very curious about the regencalm by Facetheory myself. I have tried the Paula’s choice clinical retinol and it helped get rid of background redness on my chin from previous episodes of perioral dermatitis.
Oh dear; I just bought the garden of wisdom vitamin c. Waste of time?
