100% Silk hair wrap/Pillow cases

Has anyone tried a silk pillow case or wrap? And if so what brand? I'd been pondering for ages as the hair wraps aren't cheap. I recently bought one around the £50 mark. BUT it kept slipping back in the night so I'm not impressed. Saying that, my hair definitely looked less frizzy! I'm interested in opinions on the pillow cases also, to see if they do improve the appearance of pillow face!! Thank you

Anything slippery will do, including a cheap polyester pillowcase..

Ive had expensive silk pillowcases which obviously have to be looked after, and Ive had very cheap "satin" pillowcases at about 2.99. No discernable difference in terms of hair/skin so I definitely wouldn't recommend spending lots of money.

I have used both for years, my hair wrap came from Silke London, and pillowcases are all random from Amazon. All have washed well and lasted years, never had problems with my hair wrap coming off in the night either. I always get pure silk though, can't stand sweaty polyester anywhere near me, certainly not in bedding! I also use silk scrunchies as my hair gets horribly matted after a day tied up in a normal bobble.

Oh I'm Cross I didn't get mine from Silke London, I got a Silkup one.. it was a toss up between those two brands. Thank you both. Do you notice a difference in your skin Peaches when you don't use the silk pillowcase?

I've got 2 silk pillowcases, own brand from John Lewis. Two so that I can change weekly and hand wash the other. I'm the only one who has a silk pillowcase. It's the only advantage I'm allowed over the rest of the family, and I cherish it! A new silk pillowcase as a birthday, Christmas or Mother's Day gift is a hugely welcome treat. It feels like a little bit of luxury so gives a psychological boost, and I do feel and look a little bit smoother in the morning although I'm fighting a losing battle on that one.

I got one in Penneys (primark) recently. Only one side is silk. It was about €15. I really haven’t noticed any difference to my hair.

I know the feeling BB all of a sudden even my Estée Lauder double wear is making me look haggard! When in the past it was my saviour. Never mind, channelling Helen Mirren etc.

all of a sudden

Exactly that. How did that happen?! Maybe I shouldn't have cleaned the bathroom mirror.....?!

Freshstart40 · 09/06/2019 12:52

I'm really not sure! Over a period of months, I'm starting to not look as fresh! I am early 40's though.. still young! Ish.

I second the Silke London one-I'm on my third one

I have a hair wrap from Silke London and I really didn't like it the first time I tried it. However, I'm trying it again partly due to this thread and partly because I'm being too lazy to handwash my silk pillowcases. Wink

So this is Day 4 of hair wrap and so far I've managed 3 nights to keep it one, and the 4th night I must have pulled it off in my sleep as I found it on my bedside table in the morning. I'm not convinced it makes any difference to my hair (yet) but I'll keep trying for another week or so.

I do like silk pillowcases but that might be just because I really like the feel of silk. I actually have a couple of sets of pure silk bedding (including a silk duvet) which I use when it's hot and I love them. Only downside is the silk duvet cover means the duvet often slides off the bed during the night!

I definatley noticed I don't wake up with pillow lines on my face since I swapped. Can't say I've noticed a difference to my hair but I tie it back at night.

MerryDeath · 09/06/2019 20:35

i got two from john lewis for about £35 each? i shudder to think of sleeping on a poly pillowcase Confused

BikeTart · 09/06/2019 20:37

I have a LilySilk hair bonnet and it's good.

Greenteandchives · 09/06/2019 20:40

I got my silk pillowcase from Jasmine. It goes in the washing machine. I wanted it mostly to avoid pillow creases on my face as I sleep face down. I know I shouldn’t btw. It has been great for that. The bonus is less frizz in the morning.

SavoyCabbage · 09/06/2019 20:40

My DD's both sleep in silk hats. I made them myself with silk from a fabric shop and then quilt binding. They look like shower caps, I made about ten all at once and hope they are going to last them a lifetime.

FiveTwoFaster · 09/06/2019 21:57

I have spent most of yesterday talking about this!

First I tried the silk pillow case which made my hair look less awful when I woke up. I have longish (bra strap length) fine hair with frizz but there is a LOT of it and I used to tie it on top of my head to sleep.

Then I read about wraps and tried the cool funky brightly coloured ones. They didn’t always hold my hair in, occasionally slipped off in my sleep and also left a line across my forehead when I woke up (I know it’s shallow but sleep lines last on me).

I then tried This Is Silk after looking at lots of reviews and while I’m sure it might be bad luck with the other wrap - I LOVE this one. It stays on, holds my heavy hair all night, no marks, no slippage, not pricier and I can now - for the first time in my LIFE wash and rough dry my hair the night before (and only really to damp because I am so lazy) sleep on it and then run the straighteners through in 3 mins flat. It has made my morning amazingly easy!

I also have very greasy hair - I have trained it to last 36 hours from 24 by eking out day 2 and washing it less while gritting my teeth but the silk wrap has changed my hair game and given me a lie in. I RAVE about it. Silk pillowcase good for frizz reduction but the wrap is the real game changer. Only thing is DH taking it as a sign that we won’t be DTD. But I get on the Tube with good hair every single morning and it makes me so happy.

Teddybear45 · 09/06/2019 23:46

100% cotton works to defrizz too as does any natural fabric. My hair wraps are usually just DH’s old t-shirts

Freshstart40 · 10/06/2019 08:20

Thanks all. Tried mine again last night and it didn't slip off. Nice smooth ponytail today instead of a frizzy one!
