Help dress me for Wimbledon

Hi everyone

I've got tickets to Wimbledon centre court this year which I'm so excited about and would like to call upon you all to help find an outfit for me.

I'll be getting the tube in and expecting to be on my feet a lot so don't want too high a heel and want to be comfortable footwear-wise but don't want to be too casual with my outfit...

So I'm 5'5", 8 stone 5lbs and size 8-10 generally. Small boobs, bigger on my bottom than the top. Probably preferring a dress/skirt to trousers.

Also thinking may need some kind of outer layer if cold/rains.

Any ideas?! Smile

Should add, my budget is probably up to £200

TBh you get lots of different styles there so I guess it’s what you feel comfortable in. You get ladies dressed like Kate Middleton, younger people more casual & then more trendy people.

What’s your usual style? Sunglasses are a must & maybe a sun hat. Layers are good as it can be roasting or raining. Not been for a few years but I used to wear a loose dress & expensive flat sandals.

TapasForTwo · 09/06/2019 07:38

Just wear what you feel comfortable in and what makes you feel good. There is no dress code, and no-one judges you on your outfit choice unless it is inappropriate for the weather. fancynancy's advice is spot on. Wear sunscreen if it is sunny.

A pretty midi skirt and fresh white trainers with a t-shirt and denim or leather jacket. Low key but stylish and comfortable.

Do you have ballot tickets? In any event it is not a place for heels. You will want to walk around the outside courts and maybe up to the hill, also from station. But the debentures restaurants are slightly more formal. Ballot tickets are very relaxed, lots of proper tennis fans with sensible gear, flat shoes and packed lunches! Tea dress and trainers is plenty smart. Or a city shorts type look. Have a great time!

Polyjuice · 09/06/2019 08:18

There is a players’ enclosure and also debenture areas where people (like those in the royal box) are generally smarter but if this isn’t you I would just ensure you are comfortable and have a warm sweater if it’s cooler, plenty sun cream otherwise. People can get sniffy if you wear a massive sun hat during play as well so smaller is better.

Singinghollybob · 09/06/2019 09:27

Ok thanks, some good ideas there. Yes it's the ballot so I know it doesn't have to be formal, just at the same time didn't want to look scruffy.
I'll get looking properly!

Sunglasses, discreet jewellery, no sweaty man made material. A lovely tea dress as white trainers or a midi skirt with a shirt and wedges. Lots of options. Have a lovely time.

Singinghollybob · 09/06/2019 19:21

Thank you! I wasnt sure if trainers would be ok. I've seen a midi dress I like that I think would be nice with trainers so I'll try that.

Take a wrap or a cardi - it can get chilly later on in the evening. They will close the roof if it starts to rain, at least.

Flats or low shoes, definitely - there are lots of stairs.

A light scarf so that if you're in the full glare of the sun, you can protect your neck. A hat is useful but it is infuriating to be behind a wide brim if you have once in a lifetime tickets.

Ratonastick · 10/06/2019 06:54

Definitely layers. Centre court is a bit of a micro climate and can go from blazing full sun (ie sun screen, hat, sunglasses, etc) to quite chilly as the sun goes down in a single day. Plus if they close the roof it can get hot and humid quite quickly. You definitely need to be comfortable as the seats are quite narrow and there’s a lot of walking to/from the tube and once you are inside.

The suggestion of a pretty tea dress with a denim jacket and trainers is a great one. Last time I went I wore wide linen trousers, t shirt and a jacket plus a scarf. I’d definitely find a folding sun hat too. Also check on bag restrictions. I went to a rugby international in March and there were very strict limits on the size bag you could take in (no bigger than A5!) and I noticed the same limit on some concert tickets for the summer.

I’m so jealous, I haven’t managed to get ballot tickets for a couple of years. You’ll have such a good time, there is nowhere else like it.

Rununculusaretop · 10/06/2019 10:12

Anything comfy. Trainers for the 30 minute walk from the tube, sunglasses, small sunhat, binoculars are good for nosing the royal box.
I normally wear stretchy cotton trousers, a T-shirt and a waterproof jacket for the queues.
Have a great day!

Singinghollybob · 10/06/2019 13:47

Thank you so much! I'm so so excited the only thing is our seats aren't together :(
I'm trying not to feel too disappointed!

Where abouts are your seats? High up on centre you are under the bit of permanent roof & it can be really stuffy so I’d advise layers. Closer to the court there is no shade - take sun cream!
I go a lot for work and usually wear thin dress, cardigan & denim jacket and always trainers!

Lindy2 · 10/06/2019 14:16

Are you part of a hospitality package or do you have a general entrance ticket.
In my experience, unless you are doing a posh package, the dress code is pretty casual. ie shorts and trainers.
You'll do lots of walking so glad comfortable shoes are best.
The weather could be doing anything - literally anything! 😂
Take layers. On a sunny day it could be blazing hot but if you stay into the evening it could be quite chilly. Play can go on later than 9pm on some days.
Take waterproofs and sun lotion to cover both eventualities.
Have fun. It's a great day out.
