Have you had your colours done, and if so, would you recommend it?

I’m wondering whether to have a colour analysis with Colour Me Beautiful, where apparently they give you 42 swatches of the clothing colours that work best for you, and also advise on makeup. I’m thinking this might be useful for finding good lipstick (having spent an hour in Boots trying on lipsticks at the different counters, and coming back with 2 Clinique ones that I now think don’t suit me! I also visited Bobbi Brown and they didn’t have any lipstick that was right for me), and getting advice on the best eyeshadow. In terms of clothes, I don’t know how easy it’s going to be to find clothes in the colours recommended for me. I think I have a reasonable idea of what suits me, but don’t know whether I’m missing out on colours that might be good. If you’ve had your colours done, did you find it changed how you dress? Or did it just leave you thinking - well, those 42 colours would look great, but the reality is that I can’t often find clothes in those colours, so it hasn’t really changed anything?

I’ve just found this interesting blog about seasonal subtypes: www.kettlewellcolours.co.uk/blog/jo/the-seasonal-sub-types-which-one-are-you

If pp had the choice would you choose getting your colours done or a personal shopper?

I went to House of Colour, while I could see that certain colours suited me I wasn't convinced that all the colours in my season were the best colours and for a while afterwards it really skewed my thinking and I found it too restrictive but now I feel I know my best colours - and I have gone back to black because I love it and I think it looks good on me and that's ok.

@NationalAnthem Thanks for posting. In the end, do you think the consultation played a role in helping you work out what your best colours were (e.g. did it make you aware of good colours that you’d not thought of before, or make you realize that any colours you had thought were good actually didn’t suit you), or did you end up deciding that it had not been helpful at all? Thanks!

I think the session helped me choose colours that really suited me - made me more adventurous and helped with online shopping purchases. I stopped buying charcoal and most greys but after trying hard not to, I returned to buying white, black and navy which I think look fine on me - it was weird though - I feel oddly controlled by the choices that had been given to me - I wasn't so keen on that aspect it felt almost cult like in my head.

That’s really interesting - thanks!
