Asked for cool Lavender got Aubergine

My greys were starting to show in force so decided I’d dye my hair. I work in a ‘creative’ role so bold colour is not an issue and I decided to go Lavender for the summer. I have short dark hair and didn’t want a full head of purple, just some ‘flashes’
At the salon, I explained at length I was after a cool purple as my face turns to a ripe tomato with exertion/ wine/ sneezing etc. and having had burgundy like hair before I knew it didn’t suit me.
Reader, I won’t hold you in suspense- I got bloody aubergine. It’s too warm and too dark. I did get my hair peroxided before so it’s not like it’s because my natural colour is dark. The stylist says it’ll lighten up with washing which is prob true but I really don’t think it’ll turn to the colour I was after. Properly disappointed.
So how do I rectify it? Blue rinse?

Have you tried washing it a few times?

RubberTreePlant · 08/06/2019 10:10

I'd give silver shampoo a go.

aniawl · 08/06/2019 11:57

Thanks! I’ve washed it once so far but not a discernible change ( as far as I can see anyway!)

Lavender is not an easy hair colour. Best way is to go very light cool blonde and then get a purple shampoo and leave it on for ages. What process did they use to dye your hair? Was it lightened?

aniawl · 08/06/2019 20:31

@BuffaloCauliflower yup. Lightened first to quite a light blond and the colour was applied later.

I’m just gutted I ended up with a colour I really really didn’t want and don’t like on myself and which I was quite vocal about. Had it been explained to me that it was likely to go this way, I may have gone for a different colour.

First world problems, I know, but for the amount of money I paid I was hoping to get something roughly resembling what I asked for.

Use head and shoulders classic, that will strip the colour out the fastest

Did you complain? If not call tomorrow, speak to the lead stylist/ manager. Explain what happened and that you're not happy. If they don't/ can't fix it for free you should get your money back.

NeedSomeTimeInTheSunshiiine · 08/06/2019 20:55

Do you know what colour was used? What colour is your hair naturally? I have used joico light purple and got a colour similar to what you're describing. It was too light/cool for me, but I've naturally v dark hair (which is currently bright purple) so it lightened to a warm tone, which affected the purple... Can you complain?

funkythighcollector · 09/06/2019 16:39

If it’s a one directions purple it will go blue then green as it fades, not lighter purple ime.

aniawl · 09/06/2019 18:32

Thanks for all the responses - I did complain straight away, they advised that they started with a ‘deeper’ colour so it can fade into the colour I wanted ( which seems like a very odd strategy - it’s like buying clothes that are the wrong size in the hope you slim down or grow into them 🙄) and to give it some time.

@NeedSomeTimeInTheSunshiiine 5that sounds very familiar - yes, I have naturally dark hair and when bleached it was on the yellow side. Can’t remember the name of the dye she used I’m afraid :(

If your hair is dark and bleaches yellow not close to white it won’t pick up the pastel colours, you have to go for the darker ones. Do they do lots of crazy colours or just a normal hair salon? The hairdresser I go to who only does alternative hair uses manic panic flash lightning, according to her it is the best bleach.
