Dislocated and broke it today. No idea what I’m going to wear- practically
Anyone done this and managed to dress vaguely presentably? Thinking button through shirts/ harems but needs to be cheap. I’m such an idiot. Thanks ladies

I made it into a vest stepped into and pjs. No bra. It’s so sore today. Some brilliant tips here. I’d rate the pain along childbirth too if not worse. It was horrendous. Fell off bike.

Oh you poor thing .You must still be in shock .

I hope you're being looked after .

Poncho? Woolovers have some nice ones online.

Did the same four months ago, still having physio, found fasting my bra round my waist then slipping it up through my arms and over boobs works, same taking it off, vest tops can be stepped into and pulled up in the same way, then cardigans or zip up tops over it, also bought a sleeveless body warmer, for under coat on cold days, so I could wear my coat over the sling, learnt to wash hair under the shower, one handed, live on my own so had to just do the best I could,

OurChristmasMiracle · 08/06/2019 19:49

I had surgery on my collarbone and managed to get into anything strapless. For me it was mainly dresses (they had taken a bone graft from my hip)

I slept wirh the pillows propping me up. Warm water bottles helped the pain as did putting the shower on massage setting and laying in baths with my shoulder in the water.

It took me a few days to get into a bra and do my hair properly.

Ouch, you poor thing!

I’ve been suffering with bulging discs in my neck recently and have worked hard to find comfortable not totally frumpy outfits! I highly recommend bralets from Morrison’s of all places. They do black, grey and white. Some support but comfy. Also M&S jersey trousers are lush and not expensive. Plain black or navy are £19.50 and so comfy. They do patterns for a bit more. these ones

Will definitely get some of those trousers too thanks. Great ideas here and I hope all the other in pain/ dislocated folks are soon ok

My Next joggers arrived and are surprisingly nice. My shirts are a bit wee Willie winkie but the step through bras MIL got me are ace- a bra makes me feel way better. My hair is weird though. One handed washing must not be ok!

If you have a local friendly hairdresser it's worth asking - mine washed my hair as often as I wanted, with my own products and even put styling products in for me (I had plastic surgery in my armpit and couldn't lift it) and they did it for free

LesLavandes · 10/06/2019 22:19

I am recovering from a broken shoulder. I feel your pain.

I live alone so in no way could I get a bra on. Elasticated trousers. Big tops. Did they show you how to put tops on ? Bad arm first. Taking off - good arm first.

You need to rest. Try to lie still on your back.
In shower use a rubber mat. Be careful and good luck. It's horrible

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 10/06/2019 22:41

Its rubbish isn’t it? I’m struggling today. Feel guilty about work but also in a lot of pain
The bra is the stretchiest thing ever. You step into it. It’s also bigger than I’d wear as it’s froM MIL but handy.
I’m expecting a call from fracture clinic tomorrow to find out what next
I need some better tops - the shirts I ordered are not great

Oh yes. Hair washing and drying is very difficult. Enlist help. Is your strapping outside your clothes? I had my accident in Italy They strapped me up under my clothes and said i had to wear it for a month. When I finally got home, my hospital changed all that.

AdaColeman · 10/06/2019 23:10

If you don’t have a V shaped pillow, put your two pillows into a /\ shape, with a third one like the bar of a T across the top. You will sleep propped up, but you won’t roll over onto your shoulder, and you’ll feel more secure.

A spray on dry shampoo might help you if washing hair is too uncomfortable.

All best wishes to you, and to you LesLavandes . It is difficult when you are alone I know. Thanks

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 10/06/2019 23:30

My sling is where I want it to be though seems not as good as when hospital fitted it. DH says he should have taken a photo of the fit. No strapping per se. I’m not comfy in bed. Need to sort pillows

Flowers I've been there and done it Sad Anything with an elasticated waist makes things easier but I also bought some cheap skinny jeans in a size larger so I could get them on easily one-handed and wore them with a belt. Loose stretchy vest tops/camisoles that you can pull up then loosely loop the strap over the injured side and have enough room to get the other arm in without performing contortions/garrotting yourself are great then a kimono on top. I lived in kimonos... onehundredstars.co.uk

justilou1 · 11/06/2019 07:17

I would also recommend a good spray antiperspirant as keeping your arm so close to your body and immobile makes it sweaty and skin can get boggy and can get rashy. (And in crook of elbow - or interior fossa if you want me to be a smarty pants.)

And from own experience - you will probably need to push for this later - get them to thoroughly check that you haven’t torn your rotator cuff. Will involve an MRI with contrast after bones have healed, but mine is a mess and can’t be fixed. Took two years to find out why my shoulder still hurt.

UrsulaPandress · 11/06/2019 08:28

I first dislocated mine on holiday in Mallorca and I had my arm strapped to my body with swathes of bandage and told to keep it on for 6 weeks. I think I managed about 6 days before the smell and the heat (and the crumbs) got to me.

Lidls have half roll memory foam cushions for £5.99 at the moment .

I have to sleep in a semi sitting up position and really rate these - behind my neck for my head and on either side to keep me in position .They are just the right firmness and softness .

Tho I don't know whether someone can get them for you .
