Home hair disaster what next?

So I have highlights and had bad roots so decided to put a home dark blonde due over the top to tie it all in. It, however came out really dark and warm, even though I went for dark ash blonde. I put vitamin c on it yesterday and have just used a colour remover and am now left with a gingery mess (sorry about photo, it's wet too)

I have at my disposal:

Castings semi permanent light pearl blonde (ash)
Jerome Russell ash toner
Revolution pastel lilac dye
Bleach and 40% developer

Any of those any good or am I doomed? So regret even beginning :(

Any reason why you want to be blonde? I actually feel that with your skin tone you would look lovely with slightly darker, warm toned hair.

I look awful with warm hair. I had highlights as I'm so very grey that my usual light brown was just looking odd. I genuinely thought it would just tone the blonde down a bit and blend the roots in.

All I want to do it get rid of the warmth, not so fussed about getting the blonde back. I've attached a swatch of my natural colour which is about what I was hoping for!

Just go to a salon lol

So you tried to lighten light brown hair (with grey hair) by throwing a blonde colourant on top? Sorry but you need bleach, not colour, to lighten brown hair. Your natural colour will always have a warm undertone, which needs to be removed with bleach as tint alone can’t lift that. Tints always end up warm & gingery and can’t really lighten hair much - you definitely won’t get that ashy blonde hair with a tint alone.

The thing with home hair colour is that the photo on the box isn’t necessarily indicative of the end result that you will achieve. I think home colour is fine if you’re dark or dying your hair darker, but not for blonde.

No, I wasn't trying to go blonde, my hair had about 4 loads of highlights on and was really blonde and I wanted to tone it down a bit. Having been in the sun the ends were nearly white. So I just wanted to make the lengths a bit darker to have less contrast with my roots. I absolutely wasn't trying to go lighter!

Nice n Easy Medium Ash Blonde. It's a go to for all brassy accidents.

Can you post a photo of it dry? It’s hard to see the true colour and tone when it’s wet.

To go from the wet hair photo to the other pic it will involve bleach or highlights to break up the warmth left from the colour remover. It looks too dark for a toner alone, but again with the wet hair photo it’s hard to tell!

Chartreuser · 07/06/2019 14:54

Thanks, this is it dry (but fluffy, curly girl has gone out of the window the last couple of days!)

I just need to get the warmth out, the roots and hair that wasn't highlighted is leaning pretty ginger, most of the highlights are ok. I have violet shampoo and conditioner so I'll carry whack that on when I wash it tomorrow

It doesn't look bad at all IMHO. I don't think you should mess with it.

gotmychocolateimgood · 07/06/2019 16:13

You could get a hairdresser to put some low lights in it using foils to break it up.

LittleLongDog · 07/06/2019 18:32

My hairdresser told me you can put purple shampoo on dry hair and leave it for a couple of hours to act as a toner.

BUT all hair is different so don’t try this unless you’re ready to put up with blotchy purple hair if your hair takes it differently. AND apparently it really dries your hair out, so not sure if it’s worth it.

BloomedAgain · 07/06/2019 18:56

I would try the Jerome Russell ash toner.

streeeemline · 07/06/2019 19:00

I've had this problem before.

Get yourself some Fudge or Bleach London purple shampoo. Leave it on for fifteen minutes. I promise you it will start to lift the warmth. Rinse and dry. Repeat over a week or more as needed. Get a bloody good conditioner too.
