Shopping for clothes

There was a thread on here on Sunday about fashion over 40, and I agreed with every word. I’ve been out shopping ( or trying to ) in Manchester today. Reiss, and other stories, Zara, M and S, Selfridges, Karen Millen. What a depressing two hours it was. Nothing stuck out, poor fabrics, variable quality and just nothing stylish at all.I like plain well cut classic clothes with a twist and I’m really struggling.I sent a ton of stuff back to Whistles last week, as it was essentially a big bag of polyester.

Any suggestions welcome, I don’t mind paying a reasonable price for clothes that last.

I was pleased to get an email from East to say they are back. Don't know if that's your type of thing.

Is there a John Lewis near you? Some of them have a good range of brands to check out.

I did the same and felt the same. I got a linen blouse from Jigsaw and a cotton/linen skirt from Kin (John Lewis). Both of these though have a lot of polyester in their ranges, so you really need to root through.
Have also recently got some stuff from Toast (though the sizing is beserk and the style is a bit marmite). Sometimes you need to go 2-3 sizes down to make something fit properly and then it looks relatively classic.
