Baby names

Struggling to figure out what I should name my twins, I love the names Hazel and Penelope. However, I was wondering if they sounded posh enough a bit of a silly question, however I don’t know if these names would be suitable for the workplace. Any ideas I’m having girls.

Why wouldn't they be suitable for work? Confused

Both names are perfectly fine, not unique or offensive, and many children are given them each year.

Soola · 02/06/2019 13:27

Please don’t send your babies out to work. It’s cruel.

Soola · 02/06/2019 13:27

I like both names but I don’t think they trip off the tongue together.

SlipperOrchid · 02/06/2019 13:42

They are not to my taste but I’m sure my kid’s names wouldn’t be to yours so that is irrelevant. Both names are in a similar vein if that is what you mean? They go well together.

Penelope will probably be shortened to Pen or Penny. Are you ok with that? I know a Penny who is more often or not pronounced ‘Pinny’ which is pretty unfortunate.

I think those names are dated but if you like them, go for it. Hazel was a very popular name in the 80's. I think they sound ok in the workplace. I certainly have know plenty of Hazels.

Both are quite nice. Not sure if they have style and beauty though.

Oh no I didn’t mean it in that way I have an extremely unique made up name. I hated my name growing up as it always caused me difficulty in professional settings and was mispronounced by almost everyone. I figured these name would make it easier for my daughters in the work place if they choose to go down that path didn’t mean to offend.

You'll probably get more help if you post it in the Baby name thread rather than Style & Beauty.

SlipperOrchid · 02/06/2019 14:25

They are established names and won’t cause anyone to raise their eyebrows if that is your concern. I think Kim Kardashian has a Penelope if that would bother you?

SrSteveOskowski · 02/06/2019 16:25

@SlipperOrchid, yes, I used to work with a Wendy or 'Windy' as the poor lady was often called.

OP, you might want to ask for this to be moved from Style & Beauty.

SlipperOrchid · 02/06/2019 16:30

'Windy' as the poor lady was often called.

That just made me laugh out loud. I’m Irish and Penny is always Pinny. I would never use the name for that reason alone. There aren’t many Wendys but if there were, they would almost certainly be called Windy too 😀

SrSteveOskowski · 02/06/2019 17:13

@SlipperOrchard, I'm Irish too! The Wendy I worked with was actually English.
I think our Irish accents didn't help matters. The poor lady was actually a manager and was frequently paged as "Windy Surname, please go to x"
