Recommend a night cream to me

Just that really! Inspired by another thread about beauty buys you wish you'd known about I thought that as I'm approaching 40 it might be time to start using a night cream.

At the moment I use Olay lotion or a Boots essentials cucumber lotion in the day - cheap and cheerful but most importantly they don't make me break out as I still get hormonal spots and have pretty oily skin.

Budget is not a problem but easy to find/buy is key, I'm lazy!

(A friend recommended the Aldi nightcream but it made my face itch.)

Neal's Yard: Frankincense is lovely, as is the Rose Beauty Balm. You can pop in to the store for a free sample pot before you buy. They are the only creams that have ever made my skin feel moisturised in the morning. My forehead is particularly peely and dry for some reason

Balloondog · 31/05/2019 10:15

Thanks @Rathkelter but it sounds like our skin types are complete opposites! I dream of dry skin Grin

That's funny OP! I'm sure they have a lovely natural product to suit your skin too.

NoBaggyPants · 31/05/2019 10:33

The Ordinary Retinoid in Squalane Oil. It's not a cream but you get anti ageing and moisture in one. You'd need to use an SPF in the day, but you should be anyway.

I also really rate rosehip oil. It sounds counterintuitive but works well at balancing an oily complexion.

LordEmsworth · 31/05/2019 10:35

I love Origins Night A Mins. I try other stuff but keep coming back to it.

Jellybean100 · 31/05/2019 10:37

Elemis pro collagen oxygenating night cream is the best I’ve ever tried

Thedarklady · 31/05/2019 10:49

Superfacialist Probiotic night cream or Elemis Superfood night cream.

Roselinemac · 31/05/2019 11:03

For me its Boots No.7 Protect & Perfect. Its £25 and worth every penny. I bought it 3 for 2 with the day cream and No.7 Protect & Perfect Intense ADVANCED serum for my birthday last week as I had run out a couple of month back. This week I have had loads of comments about my skin looking glowing. It makes such a difference, the cream itself feels amazing, does not leave you greasy and my skin feels plumper, brighter and younger even after I have removed it. LOVE IT!!

BusterGonad · 31/05/2019 11:08

I too love Origins Night-a-mins, I'm pretty sure they do one specifically for oily skin types.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 31/05/2019 12:24

I second @NoBaggyPants on both counts - I use The Ordinary rosehip oil too.

SoftBlocks · 31/05/2019 12:29

Another vote for Neals Yard Frankincense and Polar Nuit Polaire works really well on me (oily and ageing).

Alsohuman · 31/05/2019 12:32

Origins Night-a-Mins, they do an oil free one.

JinglingHellsBells · 31/05/2019 12:42

I don't think there is any difference between a good day cream and a night cream- it's all marketing hype.

I use Olay 3 Point Regenerist for both day and night. From Amazon for around £14 instead of RRP £30.

Sometimes I use a facial oil- from Evolve organic beauty (online and John Lewis.)

Alsohuman · 31/05/2019 12:46

Night creams are heavier and more nourishing. Anything light enough to go under make up doesn’t cut it for me at night.

JinglingHellsBells · 31/05/2019 12:47

Night creams may be heavier but they are still all basic moisturisers so unless you have terribly dry skin, there is no difference. It's all hype to get you to buy more. Just like eye creams.

Alsohuman · 31/05/2019 12:49

We’ll have to agree to disagree then.

twosoups1972 · 31/05/2019 12:50

I love Liz Earle and they smell lovely.

Sexnotgender · 31/05/2019 12:57

I use the ordinary rosehip oil too.

BusterGonad · 31/05/2019 12:58

For me a night cream is thicker and richer as it has all night to soak in, I like to really layer it on at night.
A day cream should ideally have spf in, mine usually hadn't as it can give me eczema!

TapasForTwo · 31/05/2019 13:02

I'm inclined to agree with Jingling, BUT I have even tempered skin, and it makes no difference to my skin whether I use expensive night creams or cheap ones. The only difference is that I have combination skin, and heavy creams just don't suit it.

I loved the Korres rose sleeping facial, but they have "improved" the formula, and now it smells rank instead of the lovely rose smell it used to have. I am currently using no7 Protect and Perfect, and have Superdrug's Naturally Radiant lined up for when it runs out. No cream makes my skin any more radiant than any other TBH.

twosoups1972 · 31/05/2019 13:16

I also use a facial oil at night before putting on night cream.

BusterGonad · 31/05/2019 13:25

I love a facial oil.

babysharkah · 31/05/2019 13:33

Superdrug own brand 'B'. I'm reevaluating impressed and it doesn't make my skin greasier. I also like blue Nivea but only once a week - it does make my skin greasier!

TapasForTwo · 31/05/2019 13:36

Yes, I find that Nivea is far too greasy for my skin.

BusterGonad · 31/05/2019 14:05

I like the Nivea in the blue tin/pot but I find it doesn't work much below the surface, as in it doesn't cure the dry skin but soothes it. I like creams that actually cure the problem iyswim!
