No plastic alternative to face wipes

Lilliput · 30/05/2019 22:51

So I'm feeling guilty about my face wipe habit. I don't see the point of buying an alternative in a plastic bottle so does anyone have a soap and flannel alternative that is great for you skin.
Years ago I used Liz Earle.

Lush ultra bland is OK. Recycled plastic and I think you can return it.

I like soap but not for my face so I cope with bottles, just buy big sizes. Deciem do some cleansers in metal tubes

GrassIsntGreener · 30/05/2019 22:54

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Do you mean you're using disposable wipes? I just use a flannel and water or a face wash with my hands.

GrassIsntGreener · 30/05/2019 22:55

Oh regular soap - dove cream bar is the best by far.

Lilliput · 30/05/2019 22:57

It's got to be able to get makeup off

I don't know if it's along the lines of what you're looking for but when my children were babies we were given a Cheeky Wipes kit. One of the best gifts we have ever had and still used now. Saved us quite a lot of money and better still loads less wipes went to landfill.

I've just looked it up and found that they now also do make up removal pads and sanitary products too. Worth a look....?

Hanomi · 30/05/2019 23:20

For anyone who's interested I see they also now do reusable breast pads...

AliceRR · 30/05/2019 23:22

You can get a cloth / mitt that removes make up with just water

Will see if I can find a link

TwigTheWonderKid · 30/05/2019 23:22

I use those washable make up removal pads rather like the one Hanomi linked to and rosewater and glycerin in a glass bottle

AliceRR · 30/05/2019 23:25

Like this:

Or this

These are just examples from googling “make up removing cloth” but I got something v similar from TK Maxx and it works

Otherwise you can use a flannel with any cleanser really. There are lots of cheaper alternatives to Liz Earl hot cloth cleaner like the soap and glory one and I believe a Superdrug one

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 31/05/2019 07:03

I've cut the muslin cloths I used when DC were babies up into smaller cloths and use those instead of wipes, but I agree using a product in a plastic bottle still isn't great. I've looked at commercially available cleansers in glass and aluminium packaging but they're £££ so have been planning on making my own rose water/glycerin/witch hazel cleanser - this seems like the simplest recipe I found online
https://thescentedabode.com/2015/07/24/home-made-rosewater-witch-hazel-glycerine-cleanser-vs-micellar-water/

Imleavingonajetplane · 31/05/2019 07:09

The make up erasers are good. I have two of them, because they need a trip through the washing machine every day or two. I use them with warm water.
I do also have a Pure wet cloth cleanser from Waitrose which I use with muslin cloths.
Neither send stuff to landfill.

chasingseagulls · 31/05/2019 07:12

I have only ever used a flannel and a foaming face wash and I've never had a problem removing make up. For years I've used Simple face wash gel, it's soap free so doesn't sting your eyes.

Rooftree · 31/05/2019 07:18

Isn’t that in a plastic bottle though chasing?

chasingseagulls · 31/05/2019 07:25

Rooftree True, I didn't see that bit, I thought OP was looking for alternatives to wipes in general.

Rooftree · 31/05/2019 07:28

It is difficult imo op. I’ve managed to cut out the plastics that are easy to replace like clothes washing liquid, drinks, hand wash, shower gel etc but face wash I’m finding tricky as I don’t like the feel of soap on my face. I’ll keep watching for ideas

coffeeforone · 31/05/2019 07:30

I use Clinique Take the Day Off Balm (it's in a glass container) with their washable cloth

Rooftree · 31/05/2019 07:32

Also hand cream? Has anyone got any good ideas for hand cream that isn’t in a plastic container? Sorry for hijack op!

wizzler · 31/05/2019 07:33

I have switched to simple biodegradable wipes ... they seem good so far.

mustdrivesoon · 31/05/2019 07:34

Face wash and a flannel. My skin has never looked better.

coffeeforone · 31/05/2019 07:35

Also years ago I used to use the simple soap bar and it was pretty good.

MurkySkies · 31/05/2019 07:37

I got some microfibre facecloths from
Amazon and they take my makeup off with just water.

Burts bees and l'occitaine do hand cream in metal tubes

Rooftree · 31/05/2019 07:39

Thanks murky

MairzyDoats · 31/05/2019 07:40

The body shop do a really good hemp hand cream in a metal tube.
