Help for DD's tangly hair

My dad is 7 and her hair has become tangly and difficult to get a brush through. She's had it cut and it's now just below shoulder length.

Currently we have a tangle teezer brush but it's the small hand held type and I need something with a handle now she is bigger and has such thick hair.

Can anyone recommend a hairbrush and anything else that would help with the knottiness? I do use a kids detangler spray but it's not helping.

Do you use conditioner? I use hair oil on dds hair

Aquamarine1029 · 30/05/2019 19:52

Are you using conditioner on her hair during bath time?

moreismore · 30/05/2019 19:52

Wide toothed comb and brush it through with normal hair conditioner? Then towel dry gently so it doesn’t tangle

dementedpixie · 30/05/2019 19:52

I use a paddle brush on dds long thick hair

Child's Farm detangling spray is brilliant - without it DD2's hair would be one big dreadlock.

Aussie 3 minute miracle smooth oil is amazing on my daughter’s hair. It’s very fine and tangly, and there’s loads of it. It’s also long. We comb conditioner through, rinse thoroughly, put the oil on when it’s about half dry and plait it every night for bed.

Oh god just re-read its meant to say DD not Dad obviously!!

You could also use the curly girl method. We use treseme conditioner with the picture of a coconut on it.

Sleeping in a hat changed my dd’s hair massively.

I bought a silk pillowcase for her for the same effect.

Definitely use an adult shampoo and conditioner. Dd was three when I switched from baby shampoos and the improvement was instant.

I only brush dd’s hair (well I comb it, never brush) when it’s sopping wet and slathered in conditioner.

So I’d suggest morning showers and comb her hair while wet. Always plait it for bedtime.

Tangle Teezer do a wet detangling brush now - it's shaped like a paddle brush with a handle but has the same bristles as the tangle teezer.

What about a richer leave-in conditioned through the mid-lengths and ends. I use the Pantene one in the gold pump bottle and that's really good. Non-greasy and light but allows me to comb through without snagging.

Absoluteunit · 30/05/2019 19:58

My daughter has SPD and hair brushing is a real problem for her. A Wet brush is what you need www.wetbrush.com/shop/detangle.html

I think we got ours from Amazon

Poppysball · 30/05/2019 19:58

Yes I have used conditioner which makes it fine straight after washing and drying but the next day and until the next wash it goes knotty again. Only wash it twice a week as that's all it needs.

Mason Pearson brushes are amazing! I have really thick hair and it is fab. They are expensive but I have had mine since I was a kid and am nearly 40 Grin

Pantene isn’t “rich” in a moisturising way. It’s packed full of silicones that layer up on the hair.

I use a silicone-free coconut based co-wash on DD.

My hair is knotty even after conditioning.

So I use Charles Worthington gentle detangling spray from Boots. It really works.

Yes, it has silicone, no it's not the work of the devil. It works well on some hair and enables it to be combed more easily.

I recently got dd a hairbrush with bristles between the "stalks" and it's been a game changer. She has fine hair but lots of it and loves it long (we compromised on shoulder length) and wears it down at every opportunity. I also water down regular conditioner (a tea tree one to hopefully dissuade nits) as a detangler or after washing.

I would braid her hair over night.
Comb it, braid it and it may be better in the morning.
