I paid to have photos taken of me & my baby so on the morning I washed my hair, spent ages drying it in sections then curled it with ghds.

I've just had the photos back and my hair looks a state! Like I haven't bothered at all.

Where am I going wrong? Why can't I achieve the silky glossy look that my hairdresser can?? Mine looks straggly and unbrushed!! 😒

Yes it could work - which dye is it? I only ask because you might not need the same colour; your roots look a bit red/warm so you don’t want to add any more warmth but something a tiny bit darker and ashy to match it to the lengths.

I've been using garnier nutrisse 4 & 1/2.

I might give it a go as a last ditch attempt in the hope it works, if not I'll have to find the money for a hairdresser 😳

Oh that colour looks fine - doesn’t look warm at all. Let us know how it goes! Maybe watch YouTube tutorials to figure out a good technique?

Is your hair naturally wavy. I ask this as my hair is wavy too and for the past year I've stopped drying and styling it. I wash and condition it, leave my hair in a towel for 10 minutes, then comb it and use Toni and Guy salt spray.

It dries in beachhead waves that are exactly the thing I spent years trying (and failing) to achieve with heat products. I have honestly never had as many comments about my hair as I have done since I let it do it's own thing. It actually looks so much more groomed and healthy than it did when I used to style it.

Would this be something you'd be willing to perhaps try with your hair? I found my hair became much less frazzled looking as soon as I ditched the heated hair tools.

Regarding colour, do you have a college near you with a hair salon? At our local college a colour and cut is only £10. Students are very closely supervised so end results are always good.

Alternatively a mobile hairdresser will probably be a lot more affordable than a salon.

Yes I do have a natural straggly wave to my hair. I'd definitely try a salt spray but doesn't that make hair crispy?! I'm willing to give anything a go to get better hair as I'm so fed up with how crap it always looks. I don't seem to be able to do anything with it.

No colleges near enough for me to ask unfortunately

I don't find the salt spray makes my hair crispy if I use it fairly sparingly. Also just spray it on the last 2-3 inches at the end of my hair.

I totally identify with the feeling you have of not being able to do anything with your hair. Straightening my hair, which I did for years, never gave me nice sleek straight hair, even when I used GHDs. I've realised now though that my hair is wavy so isn't meant to be straight, so I don't bother even trying to straighten it anymore.

I think you need to wash it more , maybe every 4/5 days rather than 7... I wash mine every 3/4 and it's enough .. I have very thick course curly hair though..
