Are wedges still ‘in’?

I brought a pair of low wedges from Next/Office a few weeks back, I like them as an alternative to flats in the summer but I realised you don’t see them about as much these days? Are they on their way out or is it just that we are still waiting for summer to actually begin?! It’s these ones...

Thanks!!

I like them. I think they're lovely for summer.

I've been trying to find a nice pair of wedges like that for ages but a lot of the shoes in that style are now flatforms, which look horrendous on me because I have flat feet, are not flattering and make me feel like Frankenstein.

Personally, I'd say that they're fine as soon as the sun starts shining.

XingMing · 29/05/2019 09:39

They're a classic, in dry weather. Damp espadrilles take forever to dry out.

goose1964 · 29/05/2019 09:39

They're everywhere, but I've only seen lower ones not the really high ones

chipsandgin · 29/05/2019 09:54

I like them (also they seem quite pricey for an an espadrille!) - I’m not sure that the really high wedge ones would look good but that height is lovely.

Teddybear45 · 29/05/2019 09:56

They are a classic and so never go out of style. You probably haven’t seen them yet as they tend to be summer wear; and unlike clothes many shops don’t put shoes out unless the weather outside is appropriate. Next, Primark, John Lewis etc have only just put them out now

CatyaPurella · 29/05/2019 10:48

Ooh that’s good then, I’ll keep them!

Thanks!!!

Office espadrilles, love them! Comfy and timeless.

I love the look of the tie up ones but are they a faff to put on everytime?

Shops are full of them. Bought some the other day.

Mookie81 · 29/05/2019 14:25

CatyaPurella nope, they wrap round my ankle once before tying, they stay tied and don't loosen at all.

Willowtreecottage · 29/05/2019 16:18

Why wouldn’t you want them if they aren’t ‘in’ ?Grin

CatyaPurella · 29/05/2019 16:37

Willowtree - I am a bit crap with fashion and takes me a while to ‘catch on’ and hate spending money on stuff I won’t end up wearing (I literally take back 99% of the stuff I buy). I guess I thought with wedges being around a good few years, by the time I get a pair they will be on the way out....

No they are definitely in

Greenvalleymama · 29/05/2019 19:03

Yep these are all over the high street. I must have tried on ten pairs over the past few weeks but I really don't like the feel of the closed toe. I'm now looking for something similar with a peep toe, if anyone spots any let me know!

GraceMarks · 29/05/2019 20:34

I was quite surprised to see them back in the shops again for another summer, as I had some red ones about 15 years ago and I thought we might be due to move on! But they're definitely everywhere. You can get cheaper versions in Sainsbury's, I think, but the lower ones tend to be a bit rarer.

Greenvalleymama I'm sure I saw some open-toed ones in M&S the other day. But closed toes are a rarity when it comes to summer shoes so I would think there will definitely be a suitable espadrille out there for you somewhere.

WhiteDust · 30/05/2019 13:35

For wide feet (cheap too)

I don't think that wedges are ever 'out' for summer.

Strawberryberry · 30/05/2019 19:55

I'm struggling to find a high pair I like. Got a pair about 4in with a small platform and want more similar

Greenvalleymama · 30/05/2019 20:35

Thanks @GraceMarks I went into a smaller M&S and tried on the closed toe ones but they're all wide fit and no good for my narrow feet at all. Maybe I'll try a larger store. Thanks again x

gubbsywubbsy · 30/05/2019 21:24

I've always hated wedges , I don't like the way they go thin .. I prefer a flatform , I have Loads of flatform type wedgy sandals
