Legs are so itchy after shaving - any suggestions to help please

My skin is so sensitive to shaving but I can’t bear having to let the hair grow to get it waxed in the summer.

A day after shaving my legs they become so itchy and burny and come out in red bumps. Sometimes I leave marks where I scratch them so much and they feel all hot. Is there anything I can do to prevent this? I’ve been using one of DH’s disposable razors but clearly it isn’t working for me. It is so uncomfortable especially at night🙁

I seem to better with waxing but i don’t want to not be able to show legs whilst hairs are growing long enough.

Can anyone help please?

i would try hair removal cream. this one link is the one i use in between waxing and it doesnt cause any irritation

Palmers aha anti ageing lotion after shaving stops it for me. If I get itchy then I just pop some more on

Biancadelrioisback · 28/05/2019 18:57

E45 nightime cream (in a dark blue bottle).

SRK16 · 28/05/2019 18:59

Firstly switch from a disposable razor, I find they can be quite harsh. Moisturise the day before you shave, and use a shaving cream. Then moisturise again several hours after you shave- something non scented/perfumed.

Or as others say you could try hair removal creams, but do a patch test first!

I really rate this - the body shop argan oil body butter.

aveeno strait after shaving works for me

Poppysball · 28/05/2019 19:17

Thank you everyone. Any recommendations for razors? I will have a look at getting an unperfumed moisturiser. The best thing I have used is the australian bodycare moisturiser with tea tree oil but it’s quite pricey.

Disposable razors are garbage. Invest in a good one with replaceable cartridges. I would try unscented almond oil on your legs while they are still damp.

Buy a good 4 blade razor and shave in the bath not the shower. You want to avoid having the hairs stand up at all during shaving. If you're in the shower you can get chilly. Moisturise while the skin is wet and don't put any clothes on until the skin is completely dry.

frugalkitty · 28/05/2019 19:32

I have this too, I think it's the metal of the razor blades that I'm allergic too. I do my legs once a week, in a hot bath (even in the summer) use a sensitive shaving gel and then epaderm cream straight after. I have to have soaked first, if I do them in a shower it's unbearably itchy.

StarlightLady · 28/05/2019 19:34

Try the disposable Gillette Quattro Rasberry, better than most in my view and 3 blades instead of the usual 2. Use it with a good quality hair conditioner as opposed to shower or shaving gels. Works for me! Including on my delicate bits!

Nivea for men aftershave balm in the white bottle. Yes you smell like a man but brilliant stuff to put on after shaving

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 28/05/2019 19:39

I buy men's razors with changeable blades- much cheaper than the ones aimed at women and they last longer.

FreeFreesia · 28/05/2019 19:41

Aloe vera gel is very soothing on shaved legs & it's cheap. I get on better with a razor that does not have any pre-gel on it. Currently using Gillette venus which has multiple blades but I'm not hacking at myself as with Bic.

LordEmsworth · 28/05/2019 19:48

I have a subscription to Friction Free Shaving, and it's very good. They send you 4 blades a month - i.e. changing once a week - but you can change blades less often & skip a delivery.

Also, Queen of Shaves shaving cream is amazing - really slippy for the razor to glide over.

rosydreams · 28/05/2019 19:55

i also find mens shaving gel is better

teta · 28/05/2019 20:13

Venus with a moisturising strip is brilliant. I react to everything, even waxing & hair removal creams but have never reacted to these. The cheaper razors probably have nickel in them causing a rash and irritation.

Thedarklady · 28/05/2019 21:50

Gruum razors are really good.

JessGK · 28/05/2019 22:50

Hi, Poppysball !
I have the same sensitive skin Sad. I also can't do waxing because my legs then are all red with bloody spots. So I shave my legs with Venus razor with moisturising strips and use smoothing moisturizer I buy from Canadian Pharmacy online. Recently I started using photoepilator. I must say, I expected a better result (I wanted a complete hair loss), but it's a long process I guess. However, the positive moment is that the hair grows slowlier, I shave my legs rarer and so that, I have less irritation.

ThistlyPerf · 29/05/2019 09:25

Exfoliation the day before shaving ( I use homemade with EV olive oil, sugar and tea tree / lavender essential oil)
Men’s razor - currently using Gillette Fusion 4 blade and gel
Moisturise with oil after shaving while still damp.

This has helped me massively as I used to itch until I bled.

Milliy · 30/05/2019 01:29

Shave in the bath.

BitOfFun · 30/05/2019 02:39

This is what you need- no question. Miraculous stuff.

BusterGonad · 30/05/2019 08:00

Also wash your legs with soap not shower gel. Shower gel makes my legs itch.

I agree, they are great and the blades last ages .

LoafofSellotape · 30/05/2019 08:39

**I use the green one for sensitive skin.
