How do I get this eye look?

I'm going to attempt to attach a pic of Olivia Wilde with her gorgeous eyes. Now I know I can't actually get her eyes, but can any of you advise on how you reckon she achieves the under-eye bit? A smudged pencil and mascara? What kind of pencil, a quite creamy one? Or is it eye shadow? I know none of you will actually know, but I'd be interested in your thoughts. I currently use liquid liner very finely but it's too harsh.

I think she is using the same eyeshadow as she has on her lids, below her eyes, but also using a smudgy eye pencil as well. I agree that this is a more subtle look Maud, but will probably need touching up more often.

Thanks spongebob. I've never actually used a smudgy pencil, must experiment.

I had my eyes done like that by a make up artist in LA. It took aaaages and she seemed to use loads of products!! Looked amazing though. Sigh

Ooh Geneva that must've been amazing!

Don't be put off Maud, you can probably do it with less products. Maybe on top of under-eye concealer, but again, that will decrease time between touch-ups. I find as I get older, I try and use less products, particularly if I don't really need them.

Id use Charlotte Tilburys Colour Chameleon in Amethyst Aphrodisiac www.charlottetilbury.com/uk/product/colour-chameleon-amethyst-aphrodisiac these pencils dont budge but are so easy to use and achieve a look like this. They set on your eye lid so you do need to smudge fairly quickly but its not hard. Use a short bristle smudge brush.

Thanks plump!

it will make your eyes look smaller, remember to use a light shimmer in the inner corners to counteract this

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 26/05/2019 21:48

I think she has drawn along her waterline too.

maudeyes · 27/05/2019 06:30

Myimaginary I'm guessing the water line is the bit between lashes and eyeball?

The shade looks quite shimmery to me. Specific pencils I'd recommend are Avon glimmersticks eyeliners. Look at the shade COSMIC BROWN or MAJESTIC PLUM. Both would give that effect.

maudeyes · 27/05/2019 07:52

Bluesheep thank you for the shade suggestions! When confronted with a ton of makeup counters I find it quite overwhelming and don't know where to start, which is why I've been grabbing the same items for years! So that's really helpful thanks!

Also do you reckon you'd use the same shimmery pencil on the upper lid too?

OP posts:
DieCryHate · 27/05/2019 08:29

It looks like she's got the same on the upper lid all the way across. Unless you have large eyes I'd probably do the same but just on the outer 1/3 - 2/3 of your eye on the upper lash line. I'd probably go over the creamy eyeliner with a smudging brush or a regular clean eyeshadow applicator. Then over that a very light swish of a marching, non shimmer eyeshadow.

DieCryHate · 27/05/2019 08:30

Or matching, even!

maudeyes · 27/05/2019 08:59

Brilliant thanks Diecryhate!

That's right. It will make your eyes slightly narrower if you have wide round eyes naturally.

I think the eyebrow shape is important for this look. Reminds me a bit of Joan Crawford who was famous for her striking look and brows.

DieCryHate · 27/05/2019 10:42

I think she has a darker shade on the outer corners of her upper lid and on the lower lash line which adds a bit of definition. If you YouTube smokey eye look you can use that as a template just with the colours you want. As a rule you can use a skin colour "wash" to make everything stick better, a darker non shimmer shade under the lashes and outer corners and blended out with a fluffy brush then a shimmery colour on the centre of the lid. As s PP said you could add a bit of highlighter on the inner corner and perhaps a subtle one on the brow bone directly under the arch and ends of your eyebrows.

maudeyes · 27/05/2019 10:48

Thanks diecryhate, yes my eyebrows are bizarrely the best thing about my whole body (not that the bar is very high) 😄 Which I think drew me to wanting to create a look similar to this one.

My first thought looking at that photo was that she has relatively hooded eyes and the MUA should have taken the colour up from her crease onto her hood, so that the expanse of skin didn't protrude so far forward.

She does have beautiful eyes though.
