What are my rights re getting a refund for this jewellery?

I bought a ring last month from a company based in an EU country. I used their size guide and got the correct size for the finger I wanted to wear it on. However, when it arrived it didn't fit. The design involves multiple bands held together with small metal rings, and these make the actual ring much smaller. It wouldn't even fit on my little finger.

The ring was in the sale so was apparently ineligible to be returned as a "changed my mind" purchase. I have asked the business for a refund on the basis that the ring was not as described (ie was not the stated size) and quoted the EU law, but they are refusing and saying it was as described. I guess the actual rings are the correct size, but it can't be worn on a finger of that size due to the design!

Is there anything else I can do?

If you bought it online you have 14 days to get a refund without giving any reason according to EU rules. They even have to return initial shipping costs if you're retuning the entire order and you didn't ask for a specific delivery method (like express). There are some exceptions WRT hygiene, some jewellery comes under that like pierced earrings but it has to be stated in their return policy.

Did you use a credit card or PayPal? I know cc gives extra protection over a certain amount, not sure about pp.

Do they have Twitter/Instagram, this seems to be the best way to complain to companies nowadays, if they aren't willing to discus privately.

Thanks both. Botemp, it's been more than 14 days now but funnily enough I returned it once already (thought this would confuse the issue so didn't mention in OP), as I hadn't realised their returns policy excluded sale items. They returned it to me! I still have the proof of postage though and this was 2 days after I initially received it.

I didn't use a credit card UpToonGirl and I'm pretty sure it's over £100 anyway, the ring was about £60. I might have used PayPal, will check.

They have instagram yes - I don't do twitter. I had thought of trying that, but I'm aware they can just delete any public messages they don't like. And it's a small company so a private message might just reach the same person I dealt with before.

If they keep on refusing a refund, is there anything I can do? It's the principle of it. Does small claims court extend to the EU?

Thanks!

Yes! I paid with PayPal. Thank goodness, I'm so relieved. I will open a dispute with them. Will go and scan my original postage receipt now.

Sorry for multi posting. I think I looked into the 14 day thing and it only applied to companies - I'm not sure this business is a company. That's why I went for the "not as described" angle. But I am going to try PayPal next, so I'll mention both in the dispute to be as thorough as possible.
