Jigsaw

Is SO expensive.

Years ago I used to buy a couple of items a year- knitwear and dresses maybe.

Now, there is hardly anything under £100 yet in their sales they have 70% off so shows their mark up.

Most of it I don't like now- a bit frumpy, lost the bo-ho look I loved in the past- and a lot of it is too big for me ( made for tall women?)

But there are a couple of summer dresses around I like, but the price...!

I wait for the sales as they do mark down as you say, they do also have promotions. Their ebay outlet site is definitely worth looking at.

I used to love Jigsaw - I’m tall, and suit their muted sludgy colour palette. I’m actually wearing a pair of their chinos and espadrilles today from a previous season.

However at the moment everything just looks very crumpled and frumpy as you say. I genuinely can’t find anything I want this year.

Swiftier · 24/05/2019 09:56

I’m tall so find the stuff fits me well, I like them more for basics like the Pima cotton tees, and for some workwear, like trousers. I don’t like most of their casual stuff like dresses etc.

I used to shop a lot in there but interestly not much survived - didn't wash well. I think it's lost its way now, it needs a new style director.

Like previous posters I used to buy loads from Jigsaw.... but have purchased almost nothing in the last 3 years. Even their girls' clothes aren't nice anymore. I remember buying lovely liberty print dresses there for my oldest children but the clothes are all really prosaic now.

I tend to buy a couple of Breton type tops in the summer sale every year, and this year have bought two of the big chunky resin rings which I absolutely love. I do really rate their leather though. Both my favourite bags are from there (both in the sale) and they have worn brilliantly, and I have a beautiful leather skirt I bought at the end of last summer which I did wince at the price of, but cost-per-wear has turned out to be a very worthwhile investment.

All their jumpers shrink in the wash. Even a cold wash. I have ruined several cashmere jumpers this way, and they ain't cheap

Openupyourmind · 24/05/2019 19:16

Most of the things I bought shrank - even t-shirts! For a while I was convinced that my washing machine was broken!

GraceMarks · 24/05/2019 19:25

It used to be somewhere to get the occasional piece of high-end workwear, just at the top end of my budget but not prohibitively expensive. Now it looks like the sort of thing a hobbyist painter would wear for an exhibition opening, and it costs £50 for a plain t-shirt. Not for me!

LesserBohemian · 24/05/2019 21:49

Their shoes fit my funny feet like a dream, so I go in there every season to see what’s new.

I try lots of clothes on at the same time and, despite having gone in there at different times as size 10/12/14 and 16 over the years, I’m always annoyingly between their sizes! Nothing ever fits quite right.

swissmilk · 24/05/2019 23:13

I love their bags, coats and shoes (weirdly the only brand shoes ever I have to buy a size smaller) I'm not really their target market...I prefer a bit more pattern & colour....but I occasionally get the odd piece in the sale...the pieces are not special/quality enough to pay full price.
My local one has a very odd sales assistant who I assume has been told she must give every customer/browser a compliment about their existing outfit....I get quite amused when she compliments me on something completely random because she obviously hates everything I'm wearing! Grin

BummyKnocker · 24/05/2019 23:21

I spent a lot of money in Jigsaw way back, in the late 80s and early 90s when their stuff seemed worth it and the 'vintage' side of the then current style. Now it is just mumsy workwear.

BubblesBuddy · 24/05/2019 23:53

Another store that’s going to the wall then! Who will be left?

Gentlemanwiththistledownhair · 25/05/2019 10:38

Jigsaw pencil skirts are the only ones that tend to fit me. They go narrow enough on my waist and wide enough on my hips, so for that I like them. I do only buy them at the tail end of the sale for mega discount though.
