I always insisted on having long hair, even though my hair is fine and gets really straggly, thin and lank once it gets to shoulder length. Although I’d love the kind of thick hair that looks good long, I definitely don’t have it!

Anyway, after over 30 years of wearing my hair in a rubbish looking ponytail because it looked crap down and I refused to go short, I finally took the plunge and got my hair cut to chin length. It looks so much better. For the first time ever my hair looks thick and healthy, and it actually suits me so much more than longer hair, to my surprise.

The other thing is getting a few really dark, sticky out moles removed. I had them done privately and it cost quite a lot but really improved my confidence and I wish I’d spent the money and done it years ago.

Jamsangwich I bought my cast iron kettlebells from Aldi and they are very good. I have a 6, 8 and 12 (could do with a 10 though). In fact I noticed the other day that the kettlebells at my gym are from Aldi.

Ninkaninus · 30/05/2019 16:20

I’ve got small hands though, so if 8 didn’t have any issues I don’t suppose you would.

Ninkaninus · 30/05/2019 16:22

Sigh ...*if I didn’t have any issues...

Jamsangwich · 30/05/2019 16:26

Ah, I knew what you meant. My hands are smallish too, so a grip that suits a man (OH finds the York ones just peachy) is a little too chunky for me to hold on to with confidence, especially as the weight increases. I really don't want to launch the 8kg into orbit....

Jamsangwich · 30/05/2019 16:26

I'll check the Aldi ones out too, thank you!

iMatter · 30/05/2019 16:35

Don't save your favourite beauty stuff for special occasions or "for best".

Use lovely stuff every day.

Ninkaninus · 30/05/2019 16:40

If you get the 8kg from fitness-mad I’d say you definitely won’t have a problem. I was thinking more on the 12 or 16kg, can’t remember whether they’re generally geared to a man’s grip.

But if you can get them in Aldi you can check for yourself before you buy. 👍

Ninkaninus · 30/05/2019 16:41

Yes! iMatter definitely agree with you on that!

For me the biggest one is eyebrow waxing. I only ever used to have mine threaded, it took ages, made my eyes water like mad and I hated having it done. Plus I never found anyone really good that I felt comfortable with doing it.
I swore I'd never ever get my eyebrows waxed. But I started getting my nails done in a new place and I was talking to the lovely lady who done them about my awful looking eyebrows, and she said they wax them. I said I always said I'd never have that done. She told me about it and asked if I wanted to try it. So I went for it as I trusted her.
It was honestly the best thing I've ever done. It was quick, virtually painless and I was left with the best shape. I thought she'd done some sort of ore wax thing and she still had the actual waxing to do. But she told me she was all done. I couldn't believe how easy it was. I've never looked back since. She now does both my nails and eyebrows.

Another thing is having my nails painted with proper colours, not just always having French tips. Also the shape of them. I used to have square, then I went to coffin, now I have almond. I prefer them like that.

candlefloozy · 30/05/2019 17:41

All those talking about your colours, how do you find out??

PizzaForPusheen · 30/05/2019 17:47

Glossier Boy Brow.

NotMeNoNo · 30/05/2019 19:14

I had a consultation with House of Colour after seeing recommendations on MN.

Ninkaninus · 30/05/2019 19:20

I looked at my veins, determined that they look more green than blue so my skin undertone is warm (yellow), then looked it up online and came upon this simple, quick and easy guideline:

www.thelist.com/20621/best-clothing-colors-skin-tone/

I was pretty good at picking colours to suit me anyway, but this really helped me to feel confident in my choices and also to refine them a bit, especially in terms of neutrals which look really wrong if they’re not right for your colouring.

outofnothing · 30/05/2019 20:43

Had my colours done, got my teeth sorted with veneers and just need to work on my weight now

I like this thread - let's keep it going!

Mine is not dying my hair. My hair used to fall out a fair bit and I believed it was from dying my hair every 3 months. When I became pregnant with my first I stopped dying it and although I still have good and bad hair days, my hair loss is minimal.

Soola · 01/06/2019 09:06

Dyeing my eyebrows! It’s brilliant, the dye picks up all the invisible hair/down and my eyebrows look natural and thick.

I used to use a dark brown but it always faded to look a bit gingery. Black was too harsh and some brands could fade blueish looking so I discovered a grey one and that is more like a dark brown but with none of orangeness.

I have read on here recently that you can use Just for Men beard dye on your eyebrows so I am going to try that next time.

margaritasbythesea · 01/06/2019 09:19

Soola - which is the grey one?

Soola · 01/06/2019 09:42

Apraise eyelash and eyebrow tint grey 1.1

hollieberrie · 01/06/2019 11:56

@Del1lahdaydream do you mind me asking where you went to get your sticky out moles removed? I have the same - 2 large ones - and they really bother me, have promised myself that this year i will get them removed!

sheshootssheimplores · 01/06/2019 13:03

I didn’t think I could add to this but actually I can.

Gingigel gel, my god I love the stuff. It’s not particularly expensive, I rub it on my gums every evening after brushing and it absolutely has regrown some of my gum. If you look at reviews on Amazon people rave about it. It won’t reverse gum problems if they are ongoing, but if youve worn away gum through bad brushing technique or just general ageing, this stuff will honestly help.

Also I tried the baseline recommendation on here and I really liked it. I rubbed it into my neck last night and a few dry areas and this morning it definitely looks rehydrates. So I’ll keep doing it.

I particularly like the low cost options on here.

I can add a high cost option. I had my upper eyelids done and a brow lift about 18 months ago. Cost me 6k and it has taken at least 5 years off me. I did have very droopy eyes on one side though so for me it felt really necessary, I was starting to look very haggard.

sheshootssheimplores · 01/06/2019 13:06

Hollie if you meant bobbly moles then I clip the small ones flat with clippers and tie cotton around the big ones until they drop off. I do have quite a few large flat moles on my back which I think are called Seborrheic Keratoses. I’ve inherited them through my mums genes and I hate them. No idea how to get rid of those fuckers though.

sheshootssheimplores · 01/06/2019 13:07

*Vaseline

justilou1 · 01/06/2019 13:19

That my skin DOESN’T love active ingredients, despite the hype.
I use an oil cleanser, followed by a gentle foaming one. A cheap hyaluronic acid serum (The ordinary, usually) about three or four drops of rosehip oil UNDER my neutrogena hydroboost gel cream moisturiser. I live in Aus, so I invest in decent and high spf and I never skip it. I put it on my hands as well. I have worn a high spf since I was very young and compared to most Aussies, I think it shows. (Also dodge the sun by wearing hats and sunglasses and make it my personal mission to embarrass my kids by breaking out my UV reflective parasol if necessary. I have a genetic predisposition to melanoma and have lost several family members to it. I’m not going out that way!!!) I also eat a diet that is high in nutrients and causes minimal inflammation. (Lots of veggies, very low carb, no sugar, etc) While I do this because I have migraines and autoimmune issues, my skin looks great as a side-effect. It’s true that you are what you eat, etc....

Bezalelle · 01/06/2019 13:53

Microblading. It's saved me so much time, angst and money spent on eyebrow products.

sheshootssheimplores · 01/06/2019 13:59

Agreed! I know so many people hate semi permanent brows on here but my brows now take me 30 secs as opposed to 10 mins 😬
