Work shoes that won't hurt my feet but also aren't hideous

I'm trying to find some work shoes that aren't completely vile to look at but won't a. cut into my achilles b. cut into the top of my foot c. rub the sides of my feet.

Something that would look good with both trousers and skirts would be great.

We're not allowed to have sandals, toes should be covered. Also no trainers.

I don't like block heels.

Budget is whatever, because I would kill for shoes that I don't want to throw in the bin at the end of the day.

Hotter shoes are very good .They are a comfort range as such ,but have some pretty Mary Jane styles and are very easy to wear .I think they may have a workwear range as well. Have got a bit more up to date now .Well worth a look!

I've got these.

They have a cushioned sole and hidden platform so they (on wearing) are less high than they appear.

I find them really comfy and am planning to buy them in black this weekend also.

Another here who doesn't like block heels,, they were the sort people in their 60s and older bought from van dal when we were growing up and it's ingrained now

trader21c · 24/05/2019 18:54

What’s van dal

trader21c · 24/05/2019 19:01

They are a bit of a ‘grannyish’ brand 😉 but I like Gabor pumps for comfort and they look ok too ...

Clark's brogues

justforareply · 24/05/2019 19:31

What about buying some gel insoles? Or just the ones that go on the sole part of high heels?
Then you may be able to wear any shoes that you actually like
But it does get difficult as the full length ones take up quite a lot of the size from the shoe...

solebliss.com/

I get my work shoes from here. Expensive but super comfy - great customer service too

oxana if that's the impression I give, I do apologise, but what do you want, for me to pretend I like something when I don't? how will that help.

To whoever said, wearing socks and tights doesn't help.

Thanks for the HELPFUL comments.

The En Brogue blog may suggest some new-to-you brands.

LaPampa · 27/05/2019 14:35

Air and Grace shoes are very comfortable as they have orthopaedic style insoles hidden in more contemporary uppers.

I find Russel and Bromley loafers to be really comfy. They are not the height of fashion but at least they don’t look like orthotics like fit flops etc. They are pricey but mine last for years.

The Venn diagram crossover between not ugly and comfortable is very very small. It just is.

As I get older I value comfort over almost anything.

I do still want my shoes to look relatively trendy but I stand up for 10-15 hours at a time so I'm not just talking about ooo my feet are a bit achey level of comfort.

So I have to dress according to my shoes- I wear brogues, so tapered trousers and cardigans. Or chunky trainers, so boyfriend jeans and tucked in T-shirts.

You'll be very lucky to find comfortable shoes that magically match your style, so you are probably going to have to ask yourself if style or comfort matters most.

LellyMcKelly · 27/05/2019 20:47

I’ll second a loafer or a brogue. I have a few pairs if Red or Dead brogues that are incredibly comfortable but look really smart, or you could try something like this.
