Weight loss wardrobe

So I am currently in the process of losing a lot of weight. I obviously do not want to be replacing clothes every size so how do you deal with this?

What I did was carry on wearing stuff for as long as I could (sometimes in different ways, e.g. wearing big shirts open over t-shirts), but buy a few cheap essentials whenever absolutely necessary, especially jeans and trousers as they look particularly bad when loose! I looked out for stuff in sales, even if it was slightly too small, in the hope that I'd fit into it in a few months, but the disadvantage of that approach is that it can be quite dispiriting if your weight loss stalls. It might also be worth digging out any clothes you've put to one side over the years because they no longer fitted as its really cheering when they do!

Charity shop/Ebay....then back to the charity shop. It's amazing how few clothes you actually need short term.

Two years ago I lost 6 stone and 7 dress sizes. I bought a few things that were forgiving - plain harem pants etc, plain white/blue/striped shirts/ cami tops for underneath. Each set of these probably covered three dress sizes. For summer I added a couple of cotton dresses from H&M that got me through the warmer couple of months and for winter I got jeans from the supermarket. I even dropped a shoe size. The one thing I didn’t scrimp on was bras, got re-fitted every dress size and went from 40K to 32K. Then I had a breast reduction, but that’s another story :)

I stalk shops online, go to their sales/clearance, put in my size then search prices low to high. I have found absolute bargains, particularly in Next. I also use charity shops. When I was getting size 10 clothes I was quite rigid in getting navy clothes and colours that would match easily, now that I'm smaller and at my perfect weight I'm more relaxed!

I altered a lot of my clothes. Dresses , shirts , tops .

Amazon do some really cheap stuff

Asda t shirt bras -£4

MagentaRocks · 23/05/2019 23:25

I’m going through the same. Charity shop/supermarket clothes. I take the big stuff back to the charity shop.

I forgot to say that there seems to be quite a demand for good quality plus-size clothes, so I've sold a lot of mine on eBay, which has then funded future purchases! I did wait for a year or so in case the weight loss didn't stick, mind you...

Thank you everyone! The most annoying thing is i sent all of the clothes that did not fit to the charity shop a couple of months back. I think I am going to use this as a way of stream lining my wardrobe. I have far too many clothes and I just don't wear them. I currently wear asda £4 tshirt bras for work as I go through so many in work. I hadn't thought about wearing them outside of work.

I’ve lost 5.5 stone - I buy in sales, outlets and charity shops plus eBay
I eBay my old stuff to fund it
Tops and cardigans look ok a bit big, dresses depending on style next
Trousers and jeans I just have 4 pairs at a time - black, navy, dark blue jeans and black jeans
I buy in advance if I see a bargain - this morning found some lee jeans in clearance section of tkmaxx for £9, they are next size down from an identical pair I’m currently wearing and should fit when I get to my target weight (12lb to go)

A friend, who eventually lost five stone, bought maternity clothes from ASOS all with stretch waistbands etc…apparently lasted all the way through her diet. It makes sense, I suppose, as the clothes are designed to fit at different sizes.

MardAsSnails · 25/05/2019 14:44

Stretch waistband skirts. I’ve been wearing the m&s ones for work.

I’ve also been rocking the ‘I have in clothes that fit me and I don’t give a fuck cos I’m getting thin’ look much of the time.
