Self Harming scars - help now it's summer

My 19 year old dd has spent the last 2 years self harming quite badly and has ended up having several cuts stitched up on her arms and legs.
The scars she are left with are causing her a lot of upset, in particular now it is getting very hot and she is finding it too much to keep wearing trousers and long sleeves.
She is meant to be going away to Bulgaria with friends next month but is so worried about having her scars on show. She absolutely hates them.
I have bought her some decent scar cream but it doesn't seem to have worked. Apart from covering them with tattoo's is there anything else she could do to make her feel more comfortable?

your poor dd- wishing her all the best

could she get some henna done? or maybe try this kit?

Light weight long sleeved tops? If you get lightweight cotton then it shouldn’t be too hot.

Hope your daughter is feeling better, and is more confident about her scars in a few years.

if they are on her legs too then perhaps get a few pairs of harem trousers like these? with a white breatheable top like this would look fab x

What about those concealers you can get that can cover up tattoos? It's bound to be able to cover scars too?

Fstar · 22/05/2019 20:55

Maybe some body makeup, the kind that covers tattoos or try colour corrector, if they are red maybd some green them bit of makeup or conceler?

Thanks for all your great suggestions- I will pass them on x

Hareem pants are fabulously light and cool.

Vichy Dermablend is excellent makeup that covers up most scars. Non irritant too.

Massaging with bio oil twice a day - annoying and time consuming but really makes a huge difference in a short time.

Ones on her arms - bracelets/watch can help cover them if they're on her wrists.

The British Red Cross offer a skin camouflage service. It is a makeup that is waterproof enough to swim and will last for a few days at a time I believe. A gp referral is required.

Google British Red Cross / recover your life.

There is a treatment balm thing you can buy from the chemist. You meed to apply it religiously twice a day but it does work in dulling down the redness and raisedness quite noticably.

Its called Remescar, its not cheap but you can get it in boots. It didnt take mine away completely but made enough of a difference that I dont feel the need for long sleeves all the time.
