Steaming clothes

Can anyone recommend a good at home steamer for clothes. I'm hoping it will be a bit easier than ironing, a task that I have never mastered and hate the thoughts of.

Thanks Flowers

I bought a cheap little handheld one, it's fantastic. Takes no time at all to steam a few garment. I haven't used the ironing board in months!! I'll see if I can find the name of mine...

Mine is v similar to the Pro Breeze one on Amazon for £25, they all have good reviews though so it looks like they all work well.
I steam 5 tops on a Sunday afternoon to wear throughout the week, and hang them up ready to wear. I do kids clothes as and when if I decide they're too wrinkled to wear!

I have a karcher steam cleaner - do you think the steam wand on that would work on garments? It mentions carpets and upholstery in the blurb.

I have a fairly cheap handheld one from argos. It is great for suit jackets and things like ruffles that are awkward to iron. It won't render your iron completely redundant though as it won't give a crisp finish to suits or do creases down trousers

No reason that it shouldn't work Auld. I use my wallpaper steamer for cleaning the oven as well as it's main purpose. I have a small cheap one from Lidl's aisle of wonders.

its... duh!

Thanks Xing, i'll give it a try on something reasonably hardy.

I used my mum's wallpaper steamer to defrost my freezer when I had it on loan, took next to no time - my steam cleaner's nozzle is more concentrated so it takes a wee bit longer.

I have a handheld Phillips Styletouch. I bought it a year ago when it was more expensive and tbh I don’t think it was worth the price. However it retails for £99 now which is more reasonable.

The thing is, it’s easier than ironing but not as efficient. Clothes don’t stay crease free for as long. It can be difficult to get certain materials truly crease free or to add sharp creases. It can also be difficult to use if you don’t have a hard surface available to rest the mat/steamer against.

However it is very useful and handy, especially for a silk shirt for example. I don’t regret owning one but an iron is still needed for certain items. I think that the larger steamers that include a rack may be a better product to bridge the gap between a steamer and iron, depends on if you need a compact item or not.

Thanks everyone some things to consider not a wonder product I guess.

I have a SteamOne and have not used my iron since I got it several years ago. Has an attachment for pressing trousers.
