Which shoes for interview?

I have an interview tomorrow for a job I really want - entry level admin so office based. I have sorted out my outfit (although regretting that I don't own a suit jackey) but now onto the issue of shoes.

My most appropriate things are flats like direct.asda.com/george/women/shoes/black-faux-suede-ballet-slipper-shoes/GEM604448,default,pd.html?cgid=D1M1G20C20 or boots like www.marksandspencer.com/block-heel-chelsea-ankle-boots/p/p60107266?image=SD_01_T02_4222A_Y0_X_EC_90&color=BLACK&prevPage=plp. My trousers are a slim leg cut so leaning towards the flats but not sure what is smarter. And can I wear black socks with those flats?

I would wear the flats with no socks- unless you have those no show- very low cut ones. good luck!

milkshak3 · 21/05/2019 19:29

link for boots does not work but the flats are awful, sorry. do you have anything a tiny bit smarter/more quality. the really look as cheap as they are. sorry, Op

HundredMilesAnHour · 21/05/2019 19:33

Definitely not boots for an interview for an office-based role. Especially not in May!

The flats aren't the most attractive but they're just about passable if that's your only other option. They look like slippers rather than ballet shoes though? You can't wear slippers to an interview. And do NOT wear socks with them. If you can't cope with bare feet, wear some pop socks.

HundredMilesAnHour · 21/05/2019 19:36

Can you spend an extra £2 and get some actual shoes?

direct.asda.com/george/women/shoes/black-bow-trim-pointed-ballet-shoes/GEM694084,default,pd.html?cgid=D1M1G20C20

They're not the most stunning shoes but better than the slippers and only £2 more

Makemeaname · 21/05/2019 19:37

They are real shoes - I might have copied the wrong link but I've worn them for work before.

Yeah I know they look and are cheap but I'm just leaving uni and I've spent like 50 quid I don't have on jibhunting already so I have to work with what I've got.

Or these at £6:
direct.asda.com/george/women/shoes/black-patent-ballet-shoes/GEM687886,default,pd.html?cgid=D1M1G20C20

They're smarter looking than the slippers.

RuthW · 21/05/2019 19:38

Can't see the boots but the shoes look like slippers so they are definitely out.

Makemeaname · 21/05/2019 19:38

And I won't wear socks then - I just get really selfconcious about my feet. I'll put them in the bag in case I need them afterwards.

Wear the flats. No socks. & then buy some shoes as soon as you get paid!

Makemeaname · 21/05/2019 20:13

Thank you. Will go for soulless flats and hope they don't look at my feet.

And add decent shoes onto my (very long) shopping list for my first paycheck if I ever get a job.

Good luck with the interview!! The shoes are absolutely fine! Just deffo no socks :)
Let us know how you get on!

Makemeaname · 22/05/2019 15:02

After all that stress, today was only the exam part so no-one saw my feet. If they invite me back to interview i'll see if I can find something better

Whats wrong with boots? Those are smart and more than suitable for the office.

Sooverthemill · 22/05/2019 15:48

I think most employers know that people leaving university don't have much money. So rather than stress about your shoes you want to be comfortable so you can answer the questions! So wear what you are comfortable in. Good luck

ambereeree · 22/05/2019 15:52

Get a suit jacket for your next interview. Even a cheap one check out charity shops. In the summer you'll be carrying it on your arm so make sure your top is smart and crisp.

RatherBeRiding · 22/05/2019 16:08

I've interviewed before - can't say I've ever checked out a candidate's footwear but would probably have noticed if they'd been wearing trainers. As soon as they walk through the door you get an instant impression of whether or not they are appropriately dressed, and black flats would tick that particular box for an entry-grade admin position.

Smellbow · 22/05/2019 16:32

I think either pair are fine, but I'd have thought the flats would work better with the slim leg trousers. I doubt anyone will look at your feet with either pair though.

Good luck!

Hecateh · 22/05/2019 17:40

The black flats are fine so long as they are clean and not scuffed.

This is an entry level job and you aren't expected to have lots of money.
As an interviewer I would only have noticed trainers or very worn and or dirty shoes
