Linen jumpsuit - dryclean only?

I have a jumpsuit in 100% linen. It says dry clean only. Surely a hand wash would be ok? I have no idea why it would be dry clean only. Any thoughts?

Linen shrinks a lot. If they haven't pre-shrunk the fabric you're looking at losing maybe a whole 2 inches off the leg length. It is possible to iron out quite a bit of it but not easy.

Also, unwashed linen will be stiffer and have a different drape, or lack of drape. When you wash linen it starts to change character and become softer and looser. Basically they're covering their arses so customers won't complain over the jumpsuit looking differently after washing.

Personally I wouldn't have bought it Grin but depending on price I'd risk hand-washing it - being aware it might "ruin" it.

Well on the plus side it is cropped and (if anything) slightly on the big side, do not too concerned if it shrinks a little bit. To be honest, I didn’t even check washing instructions before I bought it - I just presumed it would be fine!

Can't say I blame you! If there are a lot of pleats or details they will also be tricky to iron out of course... so it depends on you what you're willing to do and put up with!

That is completely bonkers!
