Shoes for post ingrown toenail treatment?

Am having my ingrown toenail sorted soon (scared!!) and I’m trying to work out what I can wear afterwards. I’ll have a bandage on one big toe for a bit I presume. They said to bring open toed shoes or slippers.
I’m also thinking about the couple of weeks after whilst it’s healing too, I work in a non customer facing office with a casual dress code.
I want something comfortable but not ugly!

You need flip flops or very open toed sandals that aren’t going to touch your big toe

Open toe sandals, I had my op it in November and carried on wearing them for a very long time.

Thank you! I think anything with a toepost is out because I always grip my toes with those kind and I’m wincing at the thought of a post-op toe gripping to keep shoes on!!!

Fere how long is very long?? Blush

When I had mine done I could only wear flip flops, because the bandage was so big even open toe sandals didn’t leave enough room although it does depend on the sandal

Eek! Maybe I’ll get some cheap flip flops as an option just in case. I never normally wear sandals of any kind hence the angst!

By the way, having it done was the best thing I’ve ever done!

If Chiropody/podiatry are doing it you should be fine after the big dressing comes off at the first dressing change.

They’ll likely use mepore/melolin and it’s a very thin dressing.

The phenol used to destroy nail bed deadens the nerves so post op pain isn’t that bad, I’ve only had two patients complain. When you re-dress at home apply the tape vertically not horizontally, it’s easy to reduce blood flow and it really hurts.

I had this done last week. Thanks so much fluffycloudland77 for the advice on putting the tape vertical, I will do that. My advice is order some softpore dressings from Amazon - 60 for £8, much cheaper than buying from a pharmacy and you’ll need them for 6-12 weeks changed every other day - although I’m changing it every day at the moment as the dressing is getting quite damp.

I wore Birkenstock’s on the day of the surgery, as you can unbuckle the straps and you don’t need to force your foot through. It’s a pretty big dressing (comes off after about 2 days) and wouldn’t have fitted through my sliders or other sandals. I’m glad it’s summer because it’s going to be a few months of sandal-wearing from here on.

So happy to have it done, it sounds so ridiculous but it’s so painful isn’t it? Been in pain since October, not too long after I had ds so this maternity leave has involved a lot of hobbling around!
