Bare Minerals or Bobbi Brown?

I've been using bare minerals compact powder for at bit over a year and it has really dried out my skin. I've just figured as I've gotten older my skin has gotten dryer (it used to be more combi). So I went to the counter at Debenhams, explained that and we did the full makeup and cleanser treatment using their new foundation stick. When about 5 hours later when I finally had a chance to really look at my face again my nose was peeling horribly! My fiance said it looked "10% too done up" (I prefer a natural look and he's helped me in the past) I had already bought the foundation stick but i still haven't used it. I'm thinking about returning the stick and switching over to Bobbi Brown since a friend suggested it saying they do a good natural look. I'm the MOH in my friends wedding this coming weekend so I would like to get this settled asap but I don't want to spend a huge amount of money. Also, I'm getting married this year and would potentially like to use one of them for my wedding makeup. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I take it you are doing your own make up for the wedding? I would return the stick and try out the bobbi brown before buying if you have time and also invest in something more hydrating for your skin such as moisturiser and apply daily before the weekend. I wear the bare minerals tinted moisturiser daily and don't find it drying but it might not have enough coverage for a wedding. Sorry probably not very helpful

I'm not sure if it's the makeup that is drying your skin. Its likely you may need to change your skincare regime. Flaky skin is usually due to being dry.

In terms of makeup return the stick for the moment and try going to Bobbi Brown. They are currently skin matching customers and give a 7 day sample. Do this before you commit.

I do agree with counter staff being a bit heavy handed with how much foundation they apply. I use a lot less than what they do.

I would also suggest that if you get makeup done or foundations tested you don't buy instantly. Leave the store, walk around in different lights and certainly in natural daylight to see if it looks fine or not. Some foundations do oxidise so initially they look great, but then start looking orange.

Try Nivea soft under your makeup if your skin is dry- works a treat!

I hate Bobbi Brown, the staff always offer me shades that make me look orange. I don’t rate any of the products much.

If you want a change from bare minerals try Nars, Clinique or Lancôme as they’ve never pushed the orange look. Avoid Benefit as they adore the orange look!

Even Bobbi Brown hates Bobbi BrownWink

I'm loving the stick, but my skin isn't dry

In February I switched to a milk cleanser (I think its Nivea) and that definitely helped. I've also been using Olay sensitive night cream for dry skin and the regular day one. I gave up on using the most moisturizing bare minerals and clinique creams since they didn't do the trick. I also use primer before putting my makeup on. I used clinique in the past and my skin was too dry still and they're so expensive. Also their stuff just had a chemical like feel.

Bobbi Brown intensive serum foundation is the best I've ever used, finished with a very light layer of powder. Its not cheap but really good. I get the peely-nose thing with a lot of foundations but this one is great.
