Recommendations please!!! I want to try a shampoo bar but worries about wasting money on a rubbish one.

Thanks!

I love the Lush Sea-something one. But Lush contain palm oil so I'm looking for an alternative.

Everley · 19/05/2019 07:09

I’ve used the Lush ones in the past.
No idea which ones as it was a long time ago, but I liked them.

I've recently purchased from a company called conchus and would recommend, particularly in conjunction with their hair rinse spray.

Housewife2010 · 19/05/2019 07:52

These are another alternative to bottled shampoo. I've tried them and they are good. ,beautykubes.co.uk/

We have a lovely local shop that stocks a few, including the little tins. I love the solid conditioner. They also have large shampoo cubes. TheBeautyVault.co.uk

My goodness £8.50? For the equivalent of a bottle of shampoo?

We need better ways buying liquids. What about glass bottles that you put into a cover of some sort so that they can't smash if you drop them in the bathroom? You could keep the cover and recycle the glass.

Got to be cheaper the bars.. £8.50!

MustardScreams · 19/05/2019 08:05

Second Beauty Kubes, they do a great conditioner as well.

@madroid see if there’s any zero waste shops in your area, mine has shampoo and conditioner in hoppers you can fill your own bottle up with. You just weigh your container at home (or in store) and they work out the price from the weight.

£5.50 at the Beauty vault. I bought one on Amazon for £4 but it's now unavailable

OldJoseph · 19/05/2019 12:49

mandroid - buying shampoo (or any liquid) in a bigger volume bottle helps a small bit. So for every 1ml of shampoo there's less plastic required.
I've tried a shampoo bar and it made my scalp itchy, so used it as soap.

OldJoseph · 19/05/2019 12:52

Beauty cubes look good though.

whymewhyme · 20/05/2019 06:22

Gosh I'm shocked lush products contain palm oil! Thanks for the suggestions!

You could try one from friendly soap? No palm oil and everything free, including sls etc, so of you're not currently using something similar it may take a bit of time for your hair to get used to it.

Available off Amazon, but not with very eco packaging! If you order from their own website, I'm told it's much better. Just cardboard, no plastic or aluminium. Also much cheaper than lush!

(Can I also add an annoying eco point about aluminium packaging while I'm here?! As more people are trying to limit their plastic usage and going for solid product, I'm noticing more and more aluminium packaging. This is more energy intensive than plastic, both to initially produce and to recycle. The direct cost to wildlife is may not be as high, but the indirect cost via climate change definitely is! Please don't buy a new aluminium pot for each soap / shampoo you buy! Also they're often no good to keep the soap in as thus don't let it dry between uses so it doesn't last as long. Sorry rant over Blush)

I like Friendly shampoo bars, more gentle than Lush.

Harebel · 20/05/2019 11:45

Another vote for Friendly. They're a great company with excellent customer service. Their detox bar is lovely. I have to confess it's taken me a while to adjust to a shampoo bar though as it felt different.

INeedNewShoes · 20/05/2019 11:49

I read on a different thread on her about goats milk shampoo bars that are supposed to be good for hair and scalp.

FleurNancy · 21/05/2019 20:26

Beauty Kubes are great but fiddly. I'm currently using a goats milk one which is suiting my hair much more than others I've tried.
