Or as my 10 year old daughter has said do I look like a "granny which is trying to be cool"
Charming!

I like it!

LassOfFyvie · 18/05/2019 18:51

I don't know if it's fashionable or not. I buy clothes on whether I like them or not. I don't buy clothes on whether they are fashionable.

It's extremely bland. It's the sort of garment I would look at and think "how did you decide on that piece of bland and uninteresting clothing over the presumably racks of equally bland and uninteresting clothing"

LassOfFyvie · 18/05/2019 18:56

It also looks, even on a photograph, very cheap. I think it would be ok as cheap holiday wear where you weren't bothered if it got rumpled, got sun tan lotion/sand/split sangria on it. I don't know what your work is but to me it's definitely not office wear.

huggybear · 18/05/2019 18:57

Why not Lass?

Very few places require traditional office wear nowadays

SansasSnatch · 18/05/2019 19:00

Give the top a nice french tuck

LassOfFyvie · 18/05/2019 19:10

I would be ok with backroom staff wearing it. If I saw any of the client facing staff wearing it I would mentally raise an eyebrow.

huggybear · 18/05/2019 19:30

What industry do you work in?

Vegisgrowingwell · 18/05/2019 19:35

I'm a primary school teacher so with my work dress code it would be fine and it seems to be the kind of length of skirt that many wear in school.

It's so much easier in winter, I wear pencil skirts and black tights or chord skirts with black tights! I also have a black and navy pair of trousers too which I wear with a variety of tops.

Thank you for the comments on my figure though, really appreciate that!

For £22 I might keep one of them, will try it on with different tops as if it does get hot this year then it'll be cool! I'll keep looking for something better, I think the comment about the length is spot on but couldn't wear a really short one in school and as I've quite long legs the longer ones stop at a funny length on me!!

I do appreciate everyone's honesty. Will go back to avoiding Next again!!

But surely, Lass, it depends on your industry. I wouldn't expect to see it in a law firm, for example, but I'm imagining the OP knows that.

IHaveBrilloHair · 18/05/2019 19:40

It looks like a beachy type holiday skirt to me, I like it, but only for that, I wouldn't wear it here.
Obvs if you like it you should wear it though.

OP hasn't said what work is beyond is this skirt suitable for work? If one has to ask that question then whatever work is must have some sort of dress code.

And to me. I would not wear as it's extremely bland and has no style to it.

LassOfFyvie · 18/05/2019 19:51

Oh I see OP has posted she is a teacher. It's been 11 years since my son left school. I don't think the teachers at his school wore skirts as casual as that but obviously schools vary.

Veronicat · 18/05/2019 19:57

I like it and have just bought the blue paisley one. If everyone liked the same thing the world would be a very boring place!

Vegisgrowingwell · 18/05/2019 19:58

I think a better top would make it look less casual, in real life it's smarter than it looks in the picture, not smart smart but definitely fine for school on a hot day.

I don't know what is fashionable at the moment but am thinking that fashion is often awful. Wear what suits you and what you like. Accessorise if you need to.

Figure8 · 18/05/2019 20:31

I quite like it.

Am now questioning everything in my closet

DobbyTheHouseElk · 18/05/2019 20:31

Oh dear. I really like that skirt and I knew it was from Next because I’d been looking at it. No hope for me. Although I wasn’t wearing it to work. I also like the dress in the same print.

CountFosco · 18/05/2019 22:12

If you are a primary teacher I think it's fine, you don't want to be wearing anything expensive or too dressy and I think it's cheerful and a more practical length than a midi for a primary school.

hettie · 19/05/2019 08:08

Mmm, if you want a shorter skirt then the fashion is for a more A line shape, not sure that's ok for work though. Midi with ruffles, a wrap or pleats also in....

EdWinchester · 19/05/2019 08:15

Quite a dated look, but fine if you like it.

Veterinari · 19/05/2019 08:16

‘Fashionable’ at the moment is midi length and paper bag waists both of which look awful on me. So instead I wear things that suit me and risk being unfashionable.

The skirt looks nice and fit you well. Who cares about being fashionable

cocomelon23 · 19/05/2019 08:29

I'm just watching Miranda and she's wearing a dress that reminded me of your skirt...

Nameusernameuser · 19/05/2019 08:38

Oh god I'm 21 and I like it! I like it with that top as well. I wouldn't personally wear it though not really my style but I think it's nice.

Neither the blue not the red is fashionable - fashionable skirts at the moment seem to be midi, or if shorter then swishy or A-line, button-through.
But they are cheerful, and if they please you and are suitable for work why not?
