Which shoes?

Oh wise ones please help me decide, I need some perspective! I'm going out for a fancy meal in Cornwall in June. It's been so long since I've been out for any occasion that I haven't a clue what to wear or what looks good. I have finally settled on a dress that I feel comfortable in, but need something for my hooves feet. Please help, suggestions for alternatives are also most welcome.

I love the nude heels - more formal looking

LoafofSellotape · 18/05/2019 13:39

Nude heels

Sorry I hadn't realised how shite the photos were, here's a closer look. This is the dress (on someone much slimmer than I).

Still nude heels

dudsville · 18/05/2019 13:56

The nude heals look good, but also more traditional. The brown shoes make a fun statement. It's prefer the latter.

I've fallen down a S&B wormhole and am now doubting the dress choice (I wasn't that keen on the pattern - it was just one that fit). Off to place an order a Phase 8...

I much prefer the brown sandals. Much more fashionable. The nude heels are good in a classic / formal way, I guess it depends how formal / posh your “do” is.

zucchinieggplant · 18/05/2019 14:36

Fairy this is part of my problem; we are going to a Michelin star restaurant - so fancier than your usual meal out I suppose. But at the same time it's summer in Cornwall, so something super formal doesn't seem appropriate. I'm going to have a job convincing DH out of his shorts.

Nude courts for your formal meal Smile

Kochicoo · 18/05/2019 15:12

I really like the sandals and think they'll be perfect for the occasion. The nude heels are nice but the sandals are much more modern. Depends what look you're going for but I don't think you need to be too formal for fancy restaurants. Enjoy your evening!

Moondancer73 · 18/05/2019 15:21

Actually I'm not wild about either but I think the nude is the better choice.

zucchinieggplant · 18/05/2019 15:31

Moon nor am I, hence going back to the drawing board. Current thoughts are this dress: https://www.johnlewis.com/browse/women/womens-dresses/phase-eight/blue/_/N-flwZ1z13tm6Z1z141fw
And these shoes: https://www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/cecile-heels-ultramarine/sty-a0479-blu
I have NO creativity is terms of dressing and often play it boring safe.

Nude heels!!

Restaurant? No:6 Paul Ainsworth by any chance?

If so, I used to teach him xx

myidentitymycrisis · 18/05/2019 15:40

I prefer the sandals

zucchinieggplant · 18/05/2019 15:40

Yes nod!

Realise the dress link didn't work, but it's the navy one from the Parisian wedding thread.

Nude courts make your legs look longer

1frenchfoodie · 18/05/2019 17:34

I think the navy dress from the Parisian wedding thread is too formal for your Cornish meal - the first dress seems closer to the brief for me. Have you tried &Other stories? I am too short for a lot of their stuff but worth a look.

Winenotttea · 18/05/2019 17:47

I wore jeans to No 6 Paul Ainsworth Blush I like your first dress with the sandals. Whatever you wear you’ll have a fab night I’m sure 😊

BlythesEyes · 18/05/2019 17:55

Sandals...it'll be summer in Cornwall!! The dress is lovely.

zucchinieggplant · 18/05/2019 17:55

French yes - that's my concern. Thanks for the suggestion; it's a brand I've heard of but never in irl. I quite like this but it's not a colour I've worn before, and I'd have to source shoes.

Oh wine - insider knowledge! Will DH look out of place in his (smart) shorts? We can't wait Grin

megrichardson · 18/05/2019 17:59

The sandals: It may be warmer by then and they look pretty too.

Winenotttea · 18/05/2019 18:03

From what I can recall (it was a fair few years ago) there was a definite leaning towards smart casual, we went in February so no one was wearing shorts 😂 If they are tailored then I’m sure they would be fine. I didn’t feel underdressed (had a smart top on and nice boots) but equally wouldn’t have felt out of place in a smart dress. That yellow dress is really lovely and I think your sandals would go well with it.

If it’s still on the menu you have to try his dessert from Great British Menu 😀

LadyOfTheCanyon · 18/05/2019 18:25

The sandals, they look younger and fresher.
