Dress for funeral

I'm looking for a dress for funeral in 2 weeks time. I have in mind a good quality jersey dress, midi length, a line /slight flare, scoop or v neck, a fixed wrap is fine but nor a wrap. Short sleeves. Plan to wear with fitted charcoal jersey jacket, tights, low wedges- but then if it was hot I could just wear the dress and sandals.

Sounds a simple dress and I thought easy to find - but not successful so far.

Can anyone find me my dress?

do you mean something like this OP? all the best x

From Boden here
I find funeral clothes hard too Thanks

applesarerroundandshiny · 18/05/2019 00:20

I like the Boden dress but I wanted something with short sleeves like a T shirt rather than sleeveless like a vest. There is a Boden dress with similar shape and length skirt and the right sleeves and neck line but it's an actual wrap dress and I don't like the ties .

I think it's always the way that when you picture something which you think should be easy to find it doesn't seem to exist. I looked at several hundred black dresses on Next but none where exactly what I was picturing. Having said that, I'm quite short so it's likely that a dress which is knee length on the model would be midi length on me.

Have you tried H&M?

Ocies · 18/05/2019 08:27

Have you seen this Boden dress

applesarerroundandshiny · 18/05/2019 21:26

Well I've just ordered a dress off M&Co which is black with very small spots. I hope it will be OK.

The other thread about dressing for a funeral has got me a bit freaked - first it says you should wear all black - then it says that all black is too try hard!!

I'm closest family to the deceased in my case but I want something which feels like 'me' that I can get another wear out of.

I am going to a funeral soon, the request is no mourning, so I will either wear a navy jumpsuit or a Marc O'Polo dress (navy and cream).
I will be chief mourner at the funeral.
I have been to funerals in black, but don't like the colour and never wear it otherwise.

Alsohuman · 18/05/2019 21:40

It will be fine. I wore navy for both my parents’ funerals. That thread was ridiculous. Wall to wall black for funerals hasn’t been obligatory for decades.

Butterymuffin · 18/05/2019 21:45

I've got one of these and it sounds like what you want:

So sorry for your loss. Whatever you chose will be absolutely fine, just make sure you feel comfortable and appropriate. Do you have black trousers and a jacket or cardigan to wear with a simple white shirt? I have a navy jersey dress which I can sling on and forget which has seen me through numerous very sad funeral days. No one worth their salt will give a hoot what you wear, they should be there to support you and pay their respects.

Glad you have found something OP, and sympathy for your loss. Clippityclop is right that whatever you wear will be fine, and black certainly isn’t obligatory. It is so hard having to find a suitable outfit at such a sad time, and adds stress. I also have a plain dress (grey) that has now become the thing I wear to funerals - I never wear it anywhere else, because of the sad associations, but there is also a comfort in its familiarity.
