Nice raincoats: Seasalt or Patagonia?

I'm torn between Seasalt blue bowsprit or [[https://eu.patagonia.com/gb/en/product/womens-torrentshell-rain-jacket/83807.html?dwvar_83807_color=VJOG&cgid=root&isSearch=true#q=torrentshell&lang=en_GB&start=1 Patagonia Torrentshell]. The Seasalt looks really nice on but might not be as good - or might it? Haven't ever had one. The Patagonia i'm sure is more practical and ethically produced but does it look too hiking / outdoorsy? Thanks

Sorry, here's a proper link to the Patagonia Torrentshell

I have a Seasalt bowsprit. The tincloth cotton fabric is very comfortable- both windproof and non-sweaty. It isn’t warm in cooler weather, but there’s plenty of room for a big jumper underneath it. Not sure it’s the coolest garment, but for practicality it’s great.

Rathkelter · 15/05/2019 23:37

Thanks Doobi I tried it on and thought it looked better than a typical hiking rainjacket that only looks good on mountainsides (I have one like that but it's leaking). I was a bit concerned that the Seasalt one wasn't all that waterproof. Some reviewers said it soaked through after heavy showers.

Love the uniqlo blocktech raincoats - nice minimal design and the fabric had a stretch which makes them very comfortable.

The Patagonia one is quite ugly but if you want function over fashion then it may be the better bet.

If it’s for casual wear Patagonia can look really cool depending on what colour you get and how you style them

Having said that for commuting to work the seasalt westerly mac is great and looks smart. And it is definitely waterproof.

I live in manchester so have quite a selection of rain wear!

How about Protected Species. They look very nice.

MaudesMum · 16/05/2019 08:09

My Seasalt has kept me dry for several years, and I'd agree the tin cloth material is nice and non-sweaty. I've also never seen the point in a waterproof jacket that doesn't cover your arse and upper thighs, which the Patagonia one doesn't seem to do...

Alwayscheerful · 16/05/2019 08:13

Protected Species, all the way.

averythinline · 16/05/2019 08:17

I liked my seasalt as 'breathable' and has been waterproof (minor seam leak in absolutely lashing down) and does look more like a jacket than an anorak.....but the fabric has worn/torn really easily so am disappointed so wouldnt get another Sad is a couple of years old but still..... am on the lookout for something else that is breathable!

Rathkelter · 16/05/2019 09:28

Thanks! I'll look at Protected Species tonight.

Protected Species are expensive - over 160 quid. Is it worth the money?

Love love love my protected species trench and city (or similar, can't remember the name). Managed one on a 25% discount via their website and a 40% MN discount. Stylish, waterproof and a hood!

Trumpton · 16/05/2019 21:31

Protected Species are absolutely worth every penny .
I queued for an hour in the pouring rain last December and was still dry !
Supple and with a fantastic shaped hood .
Can you tell I am a HUGE fan .
