Wedding guest outfit help: formal, hot country and breastfeeding

Paranormalbouquet · 15/05/2019 10:00

I’m attending a wedding in a few weeks in India. I’m attending with my breastfed 6 month old. Have baby weight to lose and am a 5ft 5 hourglass. Currently in size 14-16, realistically 16 with enormous breastfeeding boobs!

So what I need is an outfit for the final day of the wedding.

Needs to be formal, have access for feeding. It’s a mixed Indian/westerner wedding so doesn’t need to be traditional. All colours acceptable other than ivory as that’s what the bride is wearing.

It’s going to be hot, possibly wet so mosquitoes everywhere- I’d prefer sleeves if possible.

I have pale skin, dark hair, blue eyes and suit strong colours usually.

I’m completely lost at the moment and any advice would be greatly appreciated!

There's one that might suit on Tiffany Rose. Also check Seraphine (phone not doing links today)

Thinkle · 15/05/2019 11:11

Agree with Seraphine

Paranormalbouquet · 15/05/2019 11:35

I’d prefer a non-maternity outfit if at all possible- they just make me more conscious of my tummy!

There are lots of wrap dresses here that you could wear with a vest top under and just pull the vest top down for feeding.

banivani · 15/05/2019 12:04

This is maternity but I nonetheless quite liked it, possibly a bit dusky in colour. Also it's pure polyester sadly, but still looked wafty enough for a breeze to get through

Tie-dye print shirt dress from Massimo Dutti

Shirt dress from Mango (just throwing out some shirt dresses as an option like)

Are these all too informal? If you go for top and skirt you have lots more of course ... Would that be something?

Paranormalbouquet · 15/05/2019 12:20

I’ve been told it’s not possible to be overdressed so I think the more formal the better! I love the wrap dresses but don’t think they are dressy enough.

Yes I’d be happy with a skirt and top, that was my original plan but finding a dressy enough top with feeding access is hard!

I was thinking if you got a top that was very swingy/cropped cut you could just lift it up you see. Mimicking this dress iyswim. With a nice fairly high-waisted skirt, either fitted or more circle cut.

Budget??

CadburysTastesVileNow · 15/05/2019 13:51

This is pure silk (so cool), airy, wrap, and will cover most of you from sun and mosquitoes. It can be shortened when you get home

I know from experience that a Large fits a 16. You may need a cami underneath just in case

Paranormalbouquet · 15/05/2019 14:23

Budget up to £300ish. More if it’s something I could have taken in once the weight comes down (took about a year after baby 1!).

Cadburys that’s lovely. Do you think it’s dressy enough? I gather it will be full on Bollywood glamour!

relaxed2atee · 15/05/2019 16:29

I think Cadbury's suggestion is fantantasic

CadburysTastesVileNow · 15/05/2019 17:08

You wouldn't need to take in the dress - just wrap it tighter.

We need to ask an Indian lady if it is dressy enough ...

banivani · 15/05/2019 17:41

That DVF is lovely. ❤️😍 If it’s dressy enough is another question of course - I looked around the website and this one definitely is Wink uk.dvf.com/puff-sleeve-embroidered-maxi-wrap-gown/12129DVF.html?dwvar_12129DVF_size=00&dwvar_12129DVF_color=QPSMM&bcid= sadly dear and not in your size and not as BF friendly.

Although as someone who has BF three children I would have had trouble with a non stretchy wrap dress - you basically have to untie the whole thing to get the boob out (granted that DVF is quite low cut).

Paranormalbouquet · 15/05/2019 20:58

I worry I’ll have trouble with it alright. Or given that I am neither tall nor thin it won’t suit.

I’ve ordered and will feed back! Any other suggestions would be gratefully received.

British Indian here. Those two dresses are beautiful though I'd say the second one is much closer to the mark on an appropriate level of 'dressiness'. If there are a lot of similarly underdressed Westerners you might get away with dressing the first dress up with plenty of jewelry. Otherwise if you're not happy with something overly embroidered or sparkly (and you really can't be too over the top at an Indian wedding) and I completely understand why, especially if it's not something you're likely to wear again then try to go for a more luxurious fabric like a silk or satin.

Balloondog · 16/05/2019 00:17

Sorry, hit post too soon. As a guide, think black tie/ball gown formality and you'll have the level of dressy just right. Enjoy the Shaadi and have a wonderful time in India!

banivani · 16/05/2019 11:55

So sounds like the DVF would not go amiss then since it's that lovely silk?

I was thinking that otherwise a full skirt and top combo would be doable, and could be adapted be BF friendly.

Inspired by this look www.coast-stores.com/p/leni-sequin-top/2120798

There are stretchy tops that can be very festive even though they're basically just tank tops. Something like that, an OTT skirt ;) and an fanc-ay jacket with sleeves like this one www.coast-stores.com/p/tara-lace-trim-cover-up/2111820

With separates it's prob quite easy to find bling. Wink But I think the DVF is nice because you could potentially get so much more wear out of it. Fingers crossed!

Paranormalbouquet · 16/05/2019 12:55

I’m not keen on elaborate embroidery- I think you need to be dainty for that and I’m currently so far over my happy size that I don’t want to draw attention to myself!

Might take baby and me to shops tomorrow and see if I can find any skirts and tops.

banivani · 16/05/2019 13:28

Well I have my fingers crossed for the DVF, I thought it was gorgeous. And Ballondog has said that this is fine for a westerner, so. Good luck!

Paranormalbouquet · 16/05/2019 13:56

Thank you to BalloonDog too!
