Blackhead removal

Dd, 13, has the most awful blackheads on her cheeks, big, swollen and very noticeable. Unfortunately, she has recently been on acne treatment prescribed by the doctor, who told her to use nothing on her skin other than plain water. The mean child seems to think his medical training trumps my 30 odd years of spot blitzing, so won't let me near them. Is there anything amazing you have come across that I can persuade her to try??

£££ incentive??

titchy · 12/05/2019 21:41

Maybe she's right and his medical training does trump yours....

BeeMyBaby · 12/05/2019 21:43

I get pretty random Facebook ads and there is this machine which costs about £25 that sucks the blackheads out. It looked amazing and gross all at the same time.

Justlikedevon · 12/05/2019 21:46

titchy I can see there may be merit in that, but these are HUGE and my preferred method of choice has always been a squeeze. Just wondered if there was some great something that would hoik them out without being totally at odds with the good doctor.
Off to Google blackhead Hoover things..!

The Body Shop do a little metal gadget with a loop at either end. You press it on & it has the same impact as a good squeeze.

Casmama · 12/05/2019 22:27

Don't risk scarring your daughters face!

SandunesAndRainclouds · 12/05/2019 22:27

Show her Dr Pimple Popper, and buy a good comedone extractor.

‘Treat’ her to a lovely steamy facial, and then gently remove. No squeezing needed but full Sporner satisfaction.

Justlikedevon · 12/05/2019 23:18

Those things look perfect, thank you!

My mum was obsessed with squeezing the blackheads in my nose when I was a teen and now the pores are huge!

Don’t do it.

Could you book her an appointment with for a facial with extraction? A professional might be a better idea.

donajimena · 12/05/2019 23:32

I pay my teen a pound per squeeze.

hotcrossbun4321 · 12/05/2019 23:34

Please don't squeeze them and leave her with scarring. If I could go back in time I would keep my hands away from my face

Justlikedevon · 12/05/2019 23:36

She won't let me near them, which is fair enough (:() but they are HUGE and she must have more than 20 on each side of her face. I have suggested going to see someone but she is resistant, which I also understand, but I'm sure it isn't good for her skin to have so much nasty going on beneath the surface. Shall propose some home steaming and the clever gadget thing a few pps suggested and see if that shifts a few!

If they are that big you squeezing them will leave a large hole which will scar her forever.

CurbsideProphet · 13/05/2019 08:01

I've previously seen a dermatologist for quite severe acne and he didn't recommended washing my face with just water. He told me what to buy and also what sun screen to use. Is this just the GP giving advice?

Miniloso · 13/05/2019 08:04

I got this a few years ago for my daughter it’s brilliant

H&S Blackhead Remover Tool Kit Pimple Whitehead Acne Comedone Extractor Tool Set Stainless Steel www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01NAHVSFS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_WAr2CbR173QPP?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

We also use www.beautybay.com/p/mario-badescu/drying-lotion/

Which is also amazing.

sue51 · 13/05/2019 08:05

I'm surprised the doctor said to use plain water. What medication is your DD on?

ObvsItsNotMe · 13/05/2019 08:06

Please don't squeeze your daughters spots or blackheads. My mum used to do it to me and it was utterly demeaning and horrid. Leave her be. Let her deal with them herself if need be. Let her listen to the doctor if she wants to.

Hadalifeonce · 13/05/2019 08:09

Seek out a dermatologist, they specialise in skin, rather than a GP who has a 'general' approach.

If you don't get rid don't they just get bigger and bigger?

Have had a couple of exes who were prone and let me squeeze, this seemed to be what would happen when they grew tired of my sportiness.

JoyceDivision · 13/05/2019 19:37

What about that silver serum that is getting rave reviews?

Drum2018 · 13/05/2019 19:45

I got a similar kit as Miniloso and shared it between teens and myself. She could use one of the tools after a shower when her pores are open. Then let her apply very gentle pressure on the blackheads.
