If I like those hipster linen dungarees, why else will I like?

I need some help defining my style as I don’t really know what it’s called so I don’t know what to search for when I’m looking for style inspiration. As a result of this I end up wearing a lot of hoodies and jeans and general teenage clothing as I like the comfort of it.

I love simple, comfortable clothing that looks like you haven’t tried but I’d like my wardrobe to be a bit more pulled together. I hate anything patterned or too frilly or flouncy but I love loose, natural looking clothing. I suspect it’s hipster but when I google that it’s way too overstyled for me, too many layers and hats and patterns and statement jewellery etc. When I google boho or hippy it’s all patterned and frills. Is there a name for what I’m looking for?

I love the linen dungarees that are in style atm and also denim dungarees and generally clothing that looks functional in an artist in a studio kind of a way. Grin

Could anyone help me with some pieces you think I would like or even just a name for the kind of style I like? My wardrobe is all over the place atm.

Lagenlook

Lucy and Yak! Go check their website, great dungarees.

Herefortheduration · 11/05/2019 22:35

Check out Forbidden Tribes, I love their things.

PeachesNewName · 11/05/2019 22:48

Thank you, thank you! Lagenlook is interesting I’d never heard of this before but yes it’s exactly the sort of thing I’m talking about although might be a bit feminine for me all those long dresses, I think I like things that are a bit more androgynous.

Had a look at both those websites and they’re perfect thank you all for pointing me in the right direction. The dungarees are so nice do you think it’s reasonable to just buy I different pair of dungarees for every day of the week Grin

Oops Forgotten Tribes, not forbidden.

Carrier Company has a very small selection of nice basics including dungarees. Cos has a fairly minimal aesthetic. Toast has some nice simple pieces too.

CountFosco · 12/05/2019 02:02

Style wise it sounds utilitarian. Look at Thatsnotmyage, you might like some of the clothes she wears.

viccat · 12/05/2019 10:19

You might like the plain things from Seasalt too, especially the linen jackets and tunics that are very artist studio inspired.

mizu · 12/05/2019 10:26

TOAST - pricey but you get some great pieces on eBay.

Same as CountFosco I was going to suggest utility, or workwear style but now you've said you like lagenlook and the other sites I'm not so sure.

Thatsnotmyage is a good example, Brittany Bathgate also on Instagram, her older pics especially. Toast do lots of workwear stuff, as do Cos and Arket. Look for hashtags for certain brands too like novesta, stanray, selvedge denim like huit, although a lot of the images are male.

For a hippier edge, search out west coast US instagram accounts. Hannamas and maraserene of General Store are a good start, not fashion accounts at all, but definitely live a certain style. Lots of beige and white linen, vintage jeans and dungarees, simple flat leather sandals, natural hair, minimal make up.

PeachesNewName · 12/05/2019 12:07

Thank you everybody I appreciate all your suggestions! I absolutely love those carriercompany clothes but they are a bit too pricey for me. Good suggestions to google specific brands as I usually have zero idea what I’m looking for! And thank you for the Instagram suggestions too this is so helpful.

No you’re right chasing-seagulls I think lagenlook is more on the feminine side which is not what I’m after. I hadn’t thought to look at ‘workwear style’ at all but that is exactly what it is that I’m drawn to!

Thanks everybody I’m going to get to work and get rid of about 3/4 of my wardrobe I think. I usually just throw on whatever’s there with no thought and I’m a bit too picky about feeling comfortable which means I just look like a slob 90% of the time. My aim now is to make the slobbishness look deliberate Grin

Have a look at apron dresses with a plain or stripey tshirt and maybe with jeans under.
The models always look effortlessly cool. I am tall but porky but they're still OK on me.

PeachesNewName · 12/05/2019 18:28

Thanks Harriet lots of nice ones I might even be able to make a few things like that with my mediocre sewing skills! Yeah I know it’s so hard to tell when you see something on a model, I am the opposite, very short and I forget I’m not as skinny as I once was when I’m buying stuff online, it used to be a lot easier!
