I’m wearing them more and more these days.

I hate trying themon and picking, I don’t know what suits me or not. Any tips?

I'm going to try Specsavers, apparently they have a computer image thing that tells you what frame style suits your face shape

The opticians have staff that can be very helpful in suggesting options.
I usually take someone with me too, and take photos of me from all angles.

I use Glasses Direct - you can upload a picture or take one with your webcam, and see how the frames look from that.

Plus - cashback via Quidco and usually have special offers on as well.

I’ll have a look at glasses direct.

Cubitts let you order four frames to try at home for a week at no charge as long as you return them. There are probably other places online that also do this but even if you don't order from them, you could try lots of differing styles that way. I did it about three times, it's good because you can wear them around the house (assuming you can wear lense free frames and see!) for as long as you want and try different hair styles, clothes, ask lots of people's opinions etc without the time pressure if standing in a shop. I did end up buying my latest frames from an independent opticians though because I need a complex prescription which I didn't trust an online place to do. My partner though with a basic near sighted prescription ordered with no problems.

I'm 42, went to vision express at Tesco recently & ordered a new pair of glasses which I will collect on Monday! The lady there was really good at helping me choose.
They have blue plastic frames, wish I'd taken a photo now.

Then I will ask them to put new lenses in my current frames as I still really like them.
Here's a pic.

My tip is don't restrict yourself to women's styles. My last 2 pairs have been from the men's section and have suited me far more than anything I've had before.

Lamentations · 11/05/2019 20:04

And I think Vision Express have the best selection of frames of the big high street opticians.

PickAChew · 11/05/2019 20:53

Unless you have a big head, Lamentations, then their selection is shockingly poor. I've learnt from bitter experience not to get 135mm arms, no matter how nice they seem when I try them on. Only specsavers seem to have a decent selection of 140mm ones. Even then, it took me 6 months to find some I was vaguely happy with, last time.

Lamentations · 12/05/2019 12:34

I must have a big head... I suppose my face is heart shaped so possibly wider than average at the cheekbones.

I've had men's Armani, Prada and Tom Ford men's frames, all lovely and very comfortable. Worth a try anyway.

Asda opticians were a lot cheaper and better quality than Specsavers for me. I take selfie photos on my phone and mull them over for 10 mins.
