Hair dye

I had my hair balayaged (technically twice - first was disastrous and second time was to fix it), didn't love it and now it's growing out. I have 2-3 inches of boring roots, 2-3inches of a brown and then blonde ends. Only caught it today as I've straightened my hair (usually messy/wavy/plaited up so colour hasn't been a problem) and it looks awful!

What are my options?
I can't afford to have it coloured at the hair dressers again.

If I bought a box dye am I going to end up with three colours of different shades again? I'd never dyed my hair before and now I wish I hadn't!

Thank you.

That’s the trouble with balayage it doesn’t help if you need to cover your roots! Go for a full head of highlights if you want to stay blonde. Otherwise get a home dye kit for an all over colour

Thank you. Not fussed about staying blonde!

I was trying to work out if I bought a red dye (for example - I'm not planning on red!) would the red cover the same all over or would I end up with light ends still?

If you want to do it at home you're best to buy a professional dye (plus developer). Amazon sell a good range, or somewhere more specialist like Sally's. Have a look at the colour charts for Dialight, Kolleston etc and go from there.

How to manage the different colours depends on the shade you want to go to. I normally concentrate on the roots and then do the ends after twenty mins (timing depends on the dye).
