Trying to "work with the curl" for the first time in decades...

I have very thick, very dry hair that is coarse and wiry, and when left to its own devices it grows into kinks and weird angles. Basically just frizz. I have never been able to get it to curl! I've always hated it and for the last ten or so years, I've worn it in a pixie crop with a fringe, which I straighen.

All those years of heat styling have left it pretty badly damaged and no amount of heat protection oils and intensive conditioning treatments can make it look any better.

So what I want to do now is find a style that I don't need to straighten but will still look ok with my frizzy, dry hair in its natural state! It won't go into ringlets or anything, and it doesn't seem to be very good at absorbing products. Any ideas?

CURLY GIRL METHOD!

Sorry to yell but it’s amazing.

THAT'S OK!

I was thinking more of hairstyles that would suit the type of hair I have. My current style really only works for straight hair, and I want to phase out the heat styling as far as possible

There’s various curl specialists depending where you are in the country that could do you a cut to suit your hair type. I’ve got very thick quite coarse hair and for my sins cut my hair myself most of the time!
I just go for above the shoulder with some layers.
I do get overly scissor happy sometimes Blush
