Advice wanted from Natural Grey-haired folk

I've let my hair grow out and now I have a bob which is all my own colour, a mix of silver, steel grey and white. I'm having my brows microbladed tomorrow. If anyone here has had this done, what colour are your brows?

I've dyed my hair all colours since I was a teenager; I think my original colour was dark blond. My brows have always been dark, and I've always found it difficult to get a brow pencil in the right colour. Black is too harsh, brown has a reddish tint that doesn't look right. I usually try taupe if I can get it, Anastasia Beverly Hills do one that seems to work.

I'm just worried that I'll end up with severely dark brows, or just the wrong colour for me. If you've had it done, were you happy with the colour and what sort of colour did you go for?

I’m afraid I have no advice on this but I wanted to ask you a question if I may! You say your hair is white, silver and steel grey. I was always under the impression that there was no such thing as an actual grey hair, it was just either Whatever your younger hair colour was, mixed with white. I thought that hair didn’t fade to grey, it just went white, but the overall impression of the hair is grey because of the brown and white or black and white etc. And what’s the difference between white and silver?

I hope you don’t mind me asking. My hair is “greying” a lot and am wondering what colour it would be if I let it grow out.

My original hair colour was an ashy dark brown and like you I have very dark eyebrows. My hair colour now is similar to how you describe yours: silver, steel grey and white. For my brows I use Anastasia Beverly Hills in graphite grey which is a cool toned dark grey colour. I believe it matches my brows really well.

Roof My hair is several different shades and the overall look is grey. I like my streaks of white and darker steel grey but I also think there's some silver in there too. Perhaps the silver is the in-between colour of white and steel grey?

taupe is a good choice. Wierdly my eyebrows have remained dark.

CMOTDibbler · 10/05/2019 20:00

I have pure white hair at the front, and at the back there is still enough of my original colour that its silver (am 46 btw). My brows are still mousy brown though, so I use a cool undertone brown brow pencil

grey
not too dark

Acrackineverything · 10/05/2019 20:51

Don't know if it'll work but I've attached a pic, please excuse the state of it I'm too tired to wash it today.

The bits that went grey in my twenties (eg behind my ears) are white now, and the rest is catching up. My mum had the same hair as me and she wasn't completely white until her early 70s.

Many thanks for the replies, I think graphite might be the best colour, or else a cool-toned taupe for my eyebrows.

I love the youthful look of microblading but I don't think I'll have it done because I've read the red tones in the pigment are the most long-lasting, so as the colour fades it becomes warmer. Maybe someone who's had it done can comment on this - ?

I use a Tarte grey brow powder as other colours are too warm (either on application or by the end of the day) and make me look ill. Even cool browns are too red and taupe too yellow. There's a khaki colour I'd like to try but I suspect it will be or turn yellow.

I have very dark brows wit sort of salt-and-pepper (very dark at the back with some white and grey at the front) hair and very pale skin, so it's really easy to get them too dark. I'd love to find a solution, I'm annoyed by how often it goes wrong.

Acrackineverything · 11/05/2019 02:46

I hadn't heard that about the pigment mrs but as I've booked and paid for it I'll have to take my chances tomorrow! I'll report back after I've had it done. Fortunately I have a fringe so if its awful it won't be too noticeable. Except if its breezy.

Sorry, I missed that it was tomorrow. I'm a bit envious really, I love the look of microbladed brows. After I read your post I did a little googling and apparently it depends on how oily your skin is and how good your body is at absorbing the pigment.

Looking forward to seeing the results. Good luck!

thefirstmrsdewinter · 11/05/2019 03:45

(I'm not sure it's obvious but I meant that to be reassuring!

I saw lots of photos of brows just before their touch-ups (after a year or so) and none seemed to be oddly-coloured or red, just slightly less defined.)

HappyKatieA · 11/05/2019 06:11

I had mine done (although mine were semi permanent tattoo) about four or five years ago, they're needing a top up now.
Although I'm darker than you, my hair doesn't have any red in it and I was worried about the same thing as you are.
Mine have slightly faded, and it's definitely a grey-er colour, no red at all.
I had long discussions about this with her about this as it was a concern to me too.
Good luck today, I've never looked back, still love my brows!

Acrackineverything · 11/05/2019 11:52

Aw thanks for replies. Well its done now and so far I'm happy. I told her (Inga) my concerns and she assures me that this colour will fade to a sort of dark grey. Inga did mention about oily skin, which I have, but not nearly as bad as when I was younger. My topup is in a month's time so i suppose i won't really know what the finished result is for a couple of months. Pic hopefully attached, freshly washed frizzy fringe and all.

Nice, they look really good. What were they like before? I ask because mine are almost nonexistent and I wonder if you need a certain amount of your own brow for this to work.

HappyKatieA · 11/05/2019 12:49

They look fab!

thefirstmrsdewinter · 11/05/2019 16:16

They look amazing, well done for taking the plunge.

Acrackineverything · 12/05/2019 04:55

Also my own brows were dark but with the odd grey one starting to sneak in, too short at the outer edges, and lacked shape due to years of over plucking.

A couple of friends have had it done due to the same issue as you, ie non existant brows, and they both look fab. Both blondes so they went with a much lighter colour than mine, kind of a taupey blond colour.

I'm 40 and would love to embrace my natural grey but I'm afraid it won't suit me and my hairdresser has told me it won't be a quick process. The thought of no more box dyes fills me with delight!

dudsville · 12/05/2019 09:09

Op, that's the best "after" brow pic I've seen. Could you post a before pic?

I'm naturally turning grey but not as far along as you. My eyebrows maintain 1 or 2 grey hairs and i only recently stopped plucking them. I don't waft to add in a new high maintenance job into my routine but i do love your results.

dudsville · 12/05/2019 09:12

By the way op, have you tried different shampoos to manage the frizz? When my hair was a few years in to greying it became the texture of straw. It took a while to find how to manage but i do now have a system that works (aveda dry remedy shampoo, conditioner and hair oil). My hair is a normal texture again.

Ohyesiam · 12/05/2019 09:14

Your brows look great.
You’ve got me thinking now....

Alsohuman · 12/05/2019 10:14

You’ve totally convinced me but the only person I’d trust after seeing yours is Inga. Please would you pm me her details? No distance is too far to travel to get that result.
