Anyone seen a trichologist about hair loss?

I have been to see my GP re gradual hair loss. Not male pattern loss or patches, just shedding loads all over.
Thryoid function normal, only blood value abnormal was low Vitamin D.
Now supplementing this.
Thinking about self referring to a trichologist but no idea what this entails.

Anyone got any experience of this?

I have. Also gradual loss, with abnormal (for me) heavy shedding. Also normal (with in range) bloods, apart from vit D and B12. Tbh not sure it was particularly helpful for me, apart from having someone take me seriously about how upsetting seeing my (previously v thick) hair get a lot thinner has been.

@WhenDoISleep sorry to hear you've got the same problem.
So did you see a trichologist?

I felt a bit of a fraud going to see gp with what looks like a good head of hair, but I can feel when washing it how much thinner it is. It is /was my only good feature!

I did see a trichologist for two appts. First time she took a history, checked my scalp and arranged blood tests (as GP blood tests had been 6 months prior) to recheck levels and recommended some products. Second appt was after the blood results were back, so checked through those, recommended vit D and B12 and more of the products I had been using. All done privately, so I had to pay for the blood tests etc. and the products were expensive. I'm not sure any of it helped though.

I understand the feeling about going to the GP about hair loss - the first time I went was 3 (?) years ago and I felt completely dismissed. I went again last December, saw a different GP, who took what I was saying much more seriously. I actually need to go back for some repeat blood tests (as some of my results were still low then), then see what she recommends. On the positive side, the heavy shedding I experienced over the last 3/4 years has definitely eased, and I am seeing some positive signs of regrowth, although I don't think my hair will ever be as thick as it once was.

Thank you @WhenDoISleep
My GP has just retired so I saw another one in same practice, (and despite him being pretty bald and well under 50) he did take me fairly seriously and requested all the blood tests.
Then saw the new GP I've been assigned with the results, she recommended the supplements.
She asked about stress, I did suffer a bereavement a couple of years ago, didn't notice any significant hair loss at the time but 6 months later my hairdresser noticed a defined short layer of regrowth which looked like I'd lost a whack at once which had then regrown.
Since then I've had the noticeable increase in shedding.

The only real stress I'm under at present is worrying about going bald!

Ive looked for local trichologists but the one closest to me seems to specialise in expensive blood tests and even more expensive supplements, and I'm taking those. I was very put off by her website, it seemed to be little more than a shop for her brand of "wonderdrug"

I am having a problem with my hair too, but not all over shedding,i now have 3 almost bald spots, went to see Dr, not my own as he is away after having an operation, she did blood test for thyroid which was ok, but offered no other help
I am going again to see another Dr,next week,
I have been told it is probably most likely a shortage of oestrogen,,[ i am post menopausal]
I hope being a woman Dr of menopausal age she might sympathise and look further into the cause
I have had quite a stressful 2 years, but i think that would cause more all over shedding
The strange thing is i hadnt noticed plugholes full of hair etc, so it was a real shock when i saw the back of my hair, which i dont do often

Another one at a similar stage - all over thinning but more noticeable now at the front (and under the hairline at the back as I discovered to my shock in a changing room mirror a few weeks ago). GP (female, similar age) took me very seriously, prescribed iron and superhigh dose Vit D to get those up to normal levels and then she said she cd refer if that doesn't help. If not I'll go private. Am 43, blood tests didn't show problems with thyroid or hormone levels. Have had a lot of stressful life events in recent years too so that's likely in the mix.

I'm going through the same and GP did bloods for Iron, Thyroid Vitamin D, Glucose and they all came back normal but Vitamin D was borderline so she suggested taking an over the counter one myself. She also referred me to a dermatologist to see if they can give anything for it and I'm waiting for that now. My hairloss is focused mainly around the front and quite visibly thin. I'm only 33 and not sure what could be the cause.
