How do you get nice feet?

So feeling inspired by the sandals thread I've realised I really need to sort out my hooves before baring them to all and sundry. I can see by the photos on the sandals thread that some mumsnetters have really nice feet, but what do you do to get them like that?

My feet are really dry and the heels get quite cracked. I'm also not that good at cutting my toenails into a nice shape and applying nail polish neatly. Yes, I know I'm hopeless! Any tips please?

I am a total convert to this.www.boots.com/dermatonics-heel-balm-60ml-10261963?cm_mmc=bmm-buk-google-ppc--PLAs--(GB:Whoop!)+Dermatonics-_-(GB:Whoop!)+Boots+Shopping+-+Category+-+Health+and+Pharmacy+-+Tablet&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=Cj0KCQjwn8_mBRCLARIsAKxi0GKDx1xXS5-2vfD_uO4hPLRDPYpwm5DlS1iX-R2XDxyrU00YS1F5SPgaAjOvEALw_wcB
I used it in a blind test and my dry skin disappeared in days.

I can't help with the other as I'm not sure if my toenails are well cut and I never paint my toenails but I suspect pedicures may be the answer

Flexitol slathered on a few times a week for dry skin. It’s miracle stuff!

Ex28 · 09/05/2019 10:55

Exfoliate in the shower
Foot file for dry skin
Moisturise - I use the Child Farm baby moisturiser
I don’t paint my nails but I file them after cutting so they’re a nice shape.

MashedSpud · 09/05/2019 10:57

Newtons sponge.

redbedheadd · 09/05/2019 11:01

I have my nails painted and filed at the salon. I am rubbish at nail varnish and it wild always chip / smudge.... since having them done with gel they always look perfect for and it lasts ages. I usually go once a month to have it done with a small trim between.

Isthebigwomanhere · 09/05/2019 11:03

Honestly Newton sponges are a game changer

floribunda18 · 09/05/2019 11:05

Well, mine will never look perfect due to the way I'm built, but at least I have nice straight toes and well-proportioned feet even if my right foot in particular is wonky.

  • Have a bath, not just showers, once in a while as it allows you to pay more attention to your feet.
  • Keep the nails short and cut them straight across
  • Use a nail brush and wash your feet and nails properly in the shower or bath
  • Use a pumice foot scrub on your feet, especially around the heel area
  • Dry them properly, especially around the nail area and in between your toes
  • Put lavender creme on every night before bed - give yourself a nice foot massage and it will help you rest and sleep well as well as making the skin nice. Avon do a good one.
  • Walk around barefoot when you can. Get your feet out!
  • Get shoes that fit properly and don't spend long periods in high heels
floribunda18 · 09/05/2019 11:05

Also don't leave nail varnish on for long periods, it can mask problems and also stain your nails.

Processedpea · 09/05/2019 11:08

probably a sucker but I bought \link{https://www.qvcuk.com/Footlogix-Callus-Softener-Spray.product.402328.html\this} from qvc as it looked very impressive on the tv!

Am yet to try

dontgobaconmyheart · 09/05/2019 11:16

Essentially if you're doing it at home; effort little and often. The only thing I do every day is intensively moisturise before bed, preferably after a bath with an intensive foot cream. You can put socks on over to increase the effect but I can't sleep in them so never do. Compeed cracked heel overnight cream is really good and I don't have cracked heels but often used regardless. When I did have them years ago I found it great, that or slather my feet in a nice body oil overnight.

Never let nails grow out too much or they will generally start to reshape. Cut them straight across the top.

Exfoliate in the bath, especially around the heel and cuticles.

Use a nail treatment varnish, never leave nail polish on too long and never without a base coat/treatment.

I think as we get older our feet naturally look less nice/even anyway, especially the nails but I find the above make a fair bit of difference.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 09/05/2019 11:23

Over the summer I get gel polish on my toes every six weeks or so- the nail technician sorts out the cuticles and the trimming so they look neat and tidy until my next visit. It makes a huge difference.

With regards cracked heels- make sure you’re staying hydrated as well as the tipsnother posters have given!

DearTeddyRobinson · 09/05/2019 11:31

Visit a chiropodist to get all the yuck hard skin removed and your toenails properly cut. Then flexitol cream, and a pedicure if you can be bothered. I usually just paint them in the evening, 2 coats, doesn't matter if you go outside the lines as the excess tends to peel off by morning!

MuffinMad · 09/05/2019 11:38

Get yourself a foot file. I purchased the Microplane version and it has been a revelation!

I have had a problem with hard skin on both heels of my feet where the skin would crack and make it hard to walk at times.

I have used flexitol foot cream, pumice stones, ped egg, that battery operated Scholl thing that turns round. Nothing worked.

Bought this, wasn't cheap, around £20. You use it on dry feet, before a shower or bath.

How do you get nice feet?
LambChopsMcGee · 09/05/2019 21:20

I go to Margaret Dabbs for their Medical pedicure a few times a year. It's a good nick start and their products are lovely. I put their hygiene cream on most nights and my feet are in better condition than they have been ever before

LambChopsMcGee · 09/05/2019 21:21

Doh

QueenOfPain · 09/05/2019 21:22

I get a pedicure and gel toe polish every four weeks. I also use a heel file on my heels in between.

FrederickCreeding · 09/05/2019 21:29

Thanks for all the tips! I don't think I could bear a pedicure as I have really ticklish feet!

I'll definitely get a foot file though and have more baths to soften the skin.
I do actually have some flexitol, I just forget to put it on regularly - clearly where I'm going wrong.

After you've used the footfile, massage in whatever cream you have and then pop a layer of Vaseline over the top. Socks on overnight. Not every night but a few times a week will help. I read on a similar thread recently about a Nivea 48 hour serum body lotion (bought it in Wilko) and I've found that really good.
