Running trainers

I know this is style and beauty but what relatively cheap (under 40) actual running trainers would people recommend?
I have lots of 'fashion' trainers but want to restart running. I have no clue if cheapish is ok? If so which ones?

Have you had a gait analysis? That’s your first port of call.

evilharpy · 07/05/2019 22:24

I would go to a running shop, have a gait analysis, buy whatever they tell me to and not give a shit what they looked like.

If you used to run and had trainers that you know worked for you, you could find the same ones or a newer version on ebay.

evilharpy · 07/05/2019 22:25

I mean if you’re on a budget. I doubt running shops have much under £40 and that is really not meant to sound arseholish.

Ivegotthree · 07/05/2019 22:31

Brooks are the worlds best selling running shoe. I wouldn't run in anything else.

Brooks Ghost is a good neutral shoe but if you can afford it, get a gait analysis done and they will tell you what to get. Best money you'll ever spend in pursuit of fitness.

newyeardelurker · 07/05/2019 22:38

Yes you should do gait analysis as others say but if you are on a budget you won't be able to afford this seasons shoes. There is an Asics outlet at the O2 if you are in London, or try m&m direct online pay for the return label. I lucked out at tkmaxx once but you need to know what you are looking for. Best of luck.

evilharpy · 07/05/2019 22:40

They’re only the best if they suit you. They won’t suit everyone, it’s very personal. I run in Saucony and doubt I’ll ever change. The roomy toe box suits my wide feet, I’ve only ever had one blister and that was during a marathon.

AuntieStella · 07/05/2019 22:47

Do you know if you need a supportive or a neutral sole?

Will you be running mainly on road/paths?

How much cushioning do you like?

If you can find a shoe you like (try lots on in shops), you can then hunt it down online as previous season's colours will,be sold off (relatively) cheaply. Do remember you need to go up a size.

Plural · 07/05/2019 22:48

Ok I'll go get a gait analysis! I have run a half marathon before but that was five years ago and I cannot remember what shoes I had back then

Another vote for saucing. Go to a running shop and work out which pair. Then you can buy the older version on line, eg I think my current ones are version 8, I can get 6 or 7 for 50% of the price.?

BWatchWatcher · 07/05/2019 22:49

www.sportsshoes.com
They also tell you how to work out the type of shoe you need.
Good luck!

Fazackerley · 07/05/2019 22:52

Just buy a pair of Brooks.

Mine are hideous to look at but my God they are comfy

AuntieStella · 07/05/2019 22:52

I really don't get on with Saucony.

That's why you need to try on lots yourself, and find out which ones do work for you.

pockledigg · 09/05/2019 04:28

Brooks. I use 'Glycerin'.
