I have terrible hair help

Hi everyone,

I have terrible hair and I'm looking for some advise on what to do with it.

It's really thick and I've got loads of it

My hair routine at the moment is shampoo, condition, 30 second blowdry to flatten the sticky up bits at the front and tie up wet in a ponytail.

The first photo I've just taken it out the ponytail and I've brushed it in the second to show the thickness better

Thank you

Can you blow dry instead of tying it up wet? My hair similar thickness but longer now. When it was that length I would blow dry and then use a fat wand to put a few waves through the ends.

hopeishere · 06/05/2019 21:09

I've really thick hair and a babyliss big hair changed my life.

meepmoop · 06/05/2019 21:16

I could blow dry it, it just takes a long time to dry and then it puffy instead of nice.
I'm rubbish with hair so that doesn't help much.

I've been growing it out from a Bob so I'm now wondering if I should add some shape maybe some layers. I'm just not very sure on it

I'll have a look at the Babyliss big hair

You don’t have to do either, just let it dry straight. I have similar hair.

If I have to wash my thick unruly curly hair before work (which I try to avoid at all costs ) I do a slick low bun on the nape of my neck with hair ties that don't pull on the hair. Blow-dry.my side fringe and straighten. Throughout the day my hair dries, I come home undo the bun and I have lovely waves and not an afro. I then sometimes straighten it or leave it as is.

My hair hates being blow-dry'd unless it's done by a professional, however I do have the tangle Teezer blow dry paddle brush and it is amazing. But I just don't have the time.or patience.

Maybe try a twist low bun or maybe two plaits before bed, with serum on the ends only. Let them out in the morning and separate with your fingers. You could leave this as is or tie in a high pony.

DangerMouse17 · 06/05/2019 21:28

It's really not that thick Confused

If it's sticking out I would put into 2 loose braids before bed (with a bit of serum or Aryan oil on the ends). If the top sticks up then a pair of tights over the top to keep it flat while you sleep.

DangerMouse17 · 06/05/2019 21:29

Argan not Aryan oil...bloody phone 🙄😩

I was you! Went to the hairdresser (for the first time in a year and a half) and they told me not to tie it up wet, start using a shampoo for curly hair (hair has slight kink in it) from the salon (ten euro but they were saying you only use a little of it as salon shampoos are more concentrated than what you buy in the shop), and to make sure to leave a conditioner on for at least ten minutes/ use a masc at least once a week and they also recommended macadamia oil from a health food shop, they said costs about six euro and beats all the expensive hair oils out there. They said let it dry naturally (down) once a week and always use a heat protection spray when blow drying or straightening. They cut loads of layers in it and even now two months later the condition of it has changed (and still have loads of the shampoo). The shampoo was Precious Nature by Alpaparf (getting the hair mask soon too) Honestly if you can get to a good hairdresser too (this was with a trainee at a salon so was free but they were amazing!) Best of luck OP!

Thank you for your advice,
I actually wash my hair every morning so maybe I need to try and get out the habit of doing it. I just really struggle with not washing it as I'm paranoid it looks greasy.

@DangerMouse17 it really is I think as I've had it up it flattens it out. Every hairdresser I've ever seen has gone wow you have a lot of thick hair.

I'd get a wavy perm and part it on the side.

DharmaInitiativeLady · 06/05/2019 22:14

I think your hair is beautiful and I'd give anything for a head of hair like yours.

BummyKnocker · 06/05/2019 22:18

Your hair isn't terrible.

Don't wash every day, blow dry it.

How about some highlights? Or a fringe?

JustCallMeSliths · 06/05/2019 22:37

Your hair isn't terrible.

You could try layers but make sure they are long layers or you risk your hair getting chunky. Would some shape around the front help? Be careful though or it will look whispy.

You don't need to wash it everyday, especially if all you do is put it in a ponytail anyway.

My hair is a bit thicker than yours and apart from taking forever to dry even with a hairdryer, it is much easier to manage now it's getting longer. I remember it just sort of sitting there when it was the same length as yours.

DangerMouse17 · 06/05/2019 23:03

Well it's lovely hair OP...I have massive barnet like Diana Ross, so your hair seems totally normal to me! Grin
